In a significant step toward sustainable logistics, Austria-based Schlager Transport Logistik has partnered with Continental to equip its electric truck fleet with advanced tire solutions. Led by electromobility pioneer Hubert Schlager, the company showcases how alternative drive systems can thrive in the transport industry. With five electric trucks logging 540,000 kilometers, Schlager relies on Continental’s Conti Eco tires and the ContiConnect digital tire management system to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact. This collaboration highlights the potential for greener logistics, with plans to fully transition the fleet by 2030.

Key Highlights

  • Long-lasting Tires: Conti Eco tires provide durability and optimal rolling resistance, boosting sustainability.
  • Digital Efficiency: ContiConnect monitors tire pressure across all 20 fleet vehicles, cutting costs and emissions.
  • Charging Innovation: Schlager’s self-built infrastructure includes six rapid charging points and solar-powered energy storage.
  • Cost Savings: A 75% toll reduction saves €16,000 annually per truck, offsetting vehicle costs in four years.

Schlager Transport Logistik, a 45-employee freight forwarder, has trusted Continental for 20 years. Hubert Schlager emphasizes the tires’ longevity, saying, “Our experience shows they have a long service life.” The Conti Eco tires are designed for electric drives, balancing high mileage with energy efficiency. Sascha Ferdinandt, Continental’s Area Manager Fleet Solutions, notes, “Tires are key to greater sustainability for trucks.” The ContiConnect system ensures optimal tire pressure, reducing total cost of ownership (TCO) and CO2 emissions, making the fleet both economical and eco-friendly.

Looking ahead, Schlager aims to lead by example. “We want to show electromobility works in transport,” Hubert Schlager states. Despite challenges like limited charging options, the company’s investment in its own infrastructure—featuring rapid chargers and solar power—makes e-truck operations viable. With toll savings and subsidies, the fleet’s transition is financially sound. Continental supports this vision, designing tires to suit electric vehicles and promote sustainability, as Ferdinandt affirms: “We take sustainability seriously.” Together, they’re driving logistics into a greener future.
