The hybrid transaxle, a vital part of hybrid electric vehicles, transfers power between the engine, electric motor, and wheels. David Rosier, president of Toyota West Virginia, noted, “This investment reflects our ‘build where we sell’ philosophy and trust in our team’s innovation.” This aligns with Toyota’s strategy to meet rising demand for hybrid vehicles, a cornerstone of its electrification efforts.

Toyota employs nearly 50,000 people across 11 U.S. plants, including a joint venture in Alabama. Since 2018, it has invested $25 billion in American manufacturing and $28.5 billion in its supplier network. Over 50% of its U.S.-sold vehicles are domestically assembled, with nearly 80% built in North America. The West Virginia plant supports operations in Kentucky, Indiana, Alabama, and Canada.

Governor Patrick Morrisey praised the move, saying, “West Virginia is proud to host Toyota’s only North American hybrid transaxle plant, fostering economic growth and skilled jobs.” Additionally, Toyota’s $100,000 donation to the Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center will enhance workforce development, opening doors to advanced manufacturing careers. This investment positions Toyota West Virginia as a leader in sustainable automotive innovation.
