VinFast has officially inaugurated its new electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Hà Tĩnh’s Vũng Áng Economic Zone, completing construction in less than seven months. This facility represents a significant step in the Vietnamese automaker’s strategy to enhance its global production network and meet the increasing demand for electric vehicles both domestically and internationally. The plant is the company’s fifth manufacturing facility worldwide and its second in Vietnam.
Key Highlights
- The Hà Tĩnh plant was constructed in under seven months, making it one of the fastest-built auto factories globally.
- It has a designed production capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year and will initially focus on compact models like the VF 3.
- The facility is expected to create approximately 6,000 direct jobs in its first phase, with a potential for 15,000 jobs in the future.
- VinFast aims for over 80% localization in its EV production by 2026, with the new plant playing a key role in this goal.
Rapid Construction and Advanced Technology
Spanning a total area of 360,000 square meters, the VinFast Hà Tĩnh plant was built with remarkable speed. The facility incorporates a highly automated production line, featuring advanced technologies from leading global partners such as ABB, DÜRR, FANUC, and SIEMENS. Key workshops include a Body Welding Shop, Painting Shop, and General Assembly Shop. All manufacturing processes adhere to stringent international standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and IATF 16949, ensuring top quality and environmental management.
Production Capacity and Focus
In its initial phase, the plant is designed to produce approximately 35 vehicles per hour, totaling about 200,000 vehicles annually. To optimize operations, the factory will first concentrate on producing compact urban EV models. These include the VF 3, Minio Green, EC Van, and other models currently in development. The vehicles manufactured at the Hà Tĩnh facility will be sold in the domestic market and exported internationally.
Economic Impact and Local Development
The establishment of the VinFast plant is a major boost for the regional economy. It is projected to generate thousands of jobs and stimulate local socioeconomic growth. Võ Trọng Hải, Chairman of the Hà Tĩnh Provincial People’s Committee, praised the project’s contribution, stating the local government is “committed to working closely with Vingroup and investors to create the most favorable conditions.” The presence of the factory is also expected to attract a network of auxiliary partners, creating a synchronized supply chain and advancing the company’s localization targets.
A Vision for Global Expansion
The new plant is a cornerstone of VinFast’s ambitious global strategy. Nguyễn Việt Quang, Vice Chairman and CEO of Vingroup, noted, “The inauguration of the VinFast Hà Tĩnh plant marks a significant milestone in VinFast’s long-term development strategy and its global production expansion.” He added that the facility will help VinFast approach its goal of producing one million vehicles per year.
In the first five months of 2025, VinFast became Vietnam’s top-selling auto brand, with models like the VF 3, VF 5, and VF 6 leading sales charts. The company is also expanding its footprint in the Philippines and Indonesia. With manufacturing facilities under development in the United States, India, and Indonesia, VinFast is solidifying its position as a key player in the global shift toward sustainable mobility.
