The Volkswagen Group has delivered its four millionth all-electric vehicle, marking a significant milestone in the automaker’s electrification push. In 2025, the Group ranked among the top five BEV manufacturers globally and held roughly 27 percent of its home market in Europe — the largest share of any single manufacturer on the continent.
Highlights
- Volkswagen Group delivered its four millionth BEV as of early March 2026, with the fourth million reached in just one year
- The Group holds approximately 27 percent BEV market share in Europe, making it the continent’s clear volume leader
- Around three million of the four million vehicles are built on the Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform
- More than 30 all-electric passenger car models are currently available across Group brands, with over 20 new models planned for 2026
MEB Platform Anchors Volume Growth
The Group’s BEV journey began in 2013 with the VW e-up!, followed by the VW e-Golf in 2014. However, meaningful volume arrived after 2019, when the cross-brand Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform launched. To date, approximately three million of the four million BEVs delivered are MEB-based, cementing it as the Group’s dominant electric architecture.
Over the past two years, the Group has refreshed its portfolio with around 60 new models across all brands. Roughly one-third carry all-electric powertrains. Additionally, the TRATON commercial vehicle brands — Scania, MAN, International, and Volkswagen Truck & Bus — contribute electric trucks and buses to the total count.
Production Network Spans More Than 20 Sites
The Group manufactures BEVs across Europe, China, the United States, and Brazil. European plants account for approximately 77 percent of total production, spread across 11 sites:
- Emden, Zwickau, Hanover (Germany)
- Bratislava (Slovakia)
- Mlada Boleslav (Czech Republic)
- Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm, Leipzig, Zuffenhausen, Munich (Germany)
- Södertälje (Sweden)
Two additional European sites — Pamplona and Martorell in Spain — are being prepared to produce the Electric Urban Car Family. Furthermore, BEV production preparations are underway at Volkswagen’s main Wolfsburg plant and at the Bentley facility in Crewe, England.
China accounts for roughly 20 percent of total BEV production across four plants: Anting, Foshan, Hefei, and Changchun. The U.S. plants in Chattanooga and Tulsa contributed approximately three percent, while Brazil recently launched electric commercial vehicle production in São Paulo.
Deliveries Concentrated in Three Core Markets
Three markets account for about 95 percent of all BEV deliveries:
- Europe: 68 percent of total deliveries
- China: 20 percent
- United States: approximately 8 percent
- All other markets: 5 percent combined
Brand Group Core Drives the Majority of Volume
By brand group, the volume breakdown is as follows:
- Brand Group Core (Volkswagen, Škoda, SEAT/CUPRA, VW Commercial Vehicles): ~72 percent, or roughly 2.86 million vehicles
- Volkswagen Passenger Cars alone: ~2 million units
- Škoda: 480,000 units
- SEAT/CUPRA: 230,000 units
- Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles: 140,000 units
- Brand Group Progressive (Audi): ~22 percent, or approximately 870,000 vehicles
- Brand Group Sport Luxury (Porsche): ~6 percent, or approximately 250,000 vehicles
- Brand Group Trucks (TRATON): ~0.3 percent, or approximately 11,000 vehicles
Compact Class and SUVs Lead Demand
The compact class represents the most popular segment, accounting for around 70 percent of all BEV deliveries. Models in this category include the VW ID.3, VW ID.4, Škoda Enyaq, CUPRA Born, and Audi Q4 e-tron. In terms of body style, SUV and crossover silhouettes account for more than half of all BEV units delivered.

2026 Expansion Targets Entry Segment
The Group plans to introduce more than 20 new models in 2026, with approximately half carrying all-electric drivetrains. A key priority is the Electric Urban Car Family — four entry-level BEV models destined for the European market. New electric models for the Chinese market are also confirmed for the current year. According to CEO Oliver Blume, it took the Group roughly ten years to deliver its first million BEVs. The fourth million took just one year. For more information, visit www.volkswagen-group.com.
