- 5,700 electric trucks delivered across 50 countries since 2019.
- Fleet has covered 250 million km—equal to 6,200 laps around the globe.
- 213,000 tonnes of CO₂ avoided versus diesel equivalents.
- Upcoming 600 km heavy-duty truck to launch in 2026.
Volvo Trucks has achieved a major electrification milestone: its global fleet of battery-electric trucks has now driven more than 250 million kilometers in commercial operation since the company launched its first models in 2019. This distance—roughly equivalent to 6,200 trips around the Earth—underscores Volvo’s leading position in the electric truck segment, with over 5,700 vehicles now operating in 50 markets worldwide.

Quantifying the Impact
Replacing diesel with electric propulsion across those kilometers prevented an estimated 213,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, the equivalent of saving 78 million liters of diesel fuel. The achievement highlights the measurable environmental benefits of large-scale electrification in freight transport, a sector responsible for approximately 5% of global CO₂-equivalent emissions.
Leadership and Market Adoption
“The shift to electric is going way too slowly,” said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks. “We lack the market conditions that would make it profitable for all transport companies to decarbonize transport. This must change if we are to see more electric trucks on the road.”
Volvo’s strongest electric truck markets include Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United States. The company’s eight-model lineup spans applications from urban distribution and waste collection to regional haul and construction, reflecting Volvo’s broad operational expertise in energy management, charging, and service support.

Looking Ahead: Longer Range and Broader Decarbonization
In 2026, Volvo plans to launch a new heavy-duty electric truck offering up to 600 kilometers of range per charge, extending its suitability for long-haul operations. Beyond battery-electric systems, Volvo’s decarbonization strategy also includes fuel-cell electric trucks and combustion engines powered by renewable fuels such as biogas and hydrogen.
