Workhorse Adds Utilimaster Aeromaster Body to W56 Electric Platform

Workhorse expands its W56 electric step van lineup with the addition of Utilimaster’s Aeromaster body, offering fleets a familiar, durable, and fully electric option for last-mile operations.

Workhorse Group Inc. has expanded its all-electric W56 Class 5/6 step van platform with the integration of the industry-standard Utilimaster Aeromaster body. The collaboration delivers a zero-emission step van with a familiar and proven body design, enabling large fleets to transition to electric mobility without disrupting established configurations.

Highlights

  • New W56 configuration integrates the Utilimaster Aeromaster aluminum walk-in body.
  • Fleet standardization allows operators to retain traditional upfit layouts and workflows.
  • Built for last-mile delivery, with up to 150 miles of range and 1,200 cu. ft. of cargo space.
  • Manufactured in Indiana, supporting U.S.-based design, testing, and assembly.

Expanded Electric Step Van Offering

Following integration, testing, and validation, the Aeromaster body is now available on the W56 chassis. The Utilimaster Aeromaster brings durable aluminum construction, low step-in height, and modular interior configurations suited for parcel delivery, service, and specialty use cases. It supports a range of upfit options—including shelving, lighting, HVAC, and multiple door designs—backed by Utilimaster’s national service and parts network.

Amanda Pickett, Director of Marketing, North America at Aebi Schmidt, said, “The W56 is a high-quality, purpose-built EV platform, and adding our well-known, industry-standard body allows fleets to combine the trusted durability and versatility of Utilimaster with the benefits of zero tailpipe emissions.”

Fleet Consistency and Electrification

Kelly Kiger, Vice President of Sales at Workhorse, emphasized that the new configuration provides fleet operators with operational consistency while adopting electric vehicles. “By offering the Utilimaster body on our W56 chassis, Workhorse can deliver the performance and reliability of its all-electric step van in the traditional form factor fleet operators already know and trust.”

Built for Commercial Demands

Manufactured at the Workhorse Ranch in Union City, Indiana, the W56 step van is engineered for the rigors of last-mile delivery. It offers a range of up to 150 miles per charge, zero tailpipe emissions, and up to 1,200 cubic feet of cargo capacity. The vehicle includes enhanced visibility, advanced safety systems, and integrated telematics for optimized fleet management.
