Die Casting Technology Consolidates Vehicle Structure

The facility employs a die-casting machine weighing 718 tons with 9,100 tons of clamping force. This equipment compresses what were previously 72 separate components into a single structural unit, resulting in a stronger body frame and simplified production workflow.

The process follows established die-casting principles: aluminum is melted, injected into a mold under extreme pressure, held until solidified, then cooled and finished into high-strength automotive components.

Automation Defines Production Operations

The body workshop operates with more than 700 robots working in coordinated precision. Across more than 200 key production processes, automation has reached 100 percent, according to factory representatives.

Digital technologies span the entire production chain. Robotic arms handle assembly while sensors track each step in real time, enabling the facility’s 76-second production cycle per vehicle.

International Delegations Tour Facility

The Xiaomi EV Hyperfactory has hosted more than 400 organized visits for guests from over 70 countries and regions, according to Ma Lan, chief of staff of Xiaomi EV and GM of General Management Department of Xiaomi Yizhuang Region. Visitors include:

  • Foreign officials and diplomatic envoys
  • Industry experts and automotive executives
  • Media representatives and investors
  • Key suppliers and business partners

In November 2024, more than 30 diplomatic envoys and trade officials from 18 countries visited the facility. Representatives came from Argentina, Egypt, Austria, Germany, Singapore, Turkey, Indonesia, and other nations.

Huub Buise, minister counselor at the Dutch Embassy in China, noted potential for deeper China-Europe cooperation in new energy. Mahmoud Tialab, second secretary at the Egyptian Embassy in China, indicated Egypt is in contact with Xiaomi to explore possible cooperation.

Automaker Executives Engage in Industry Exchange

Executives from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Ferrari have visited the factory for exchanges, according to Ma.

“This provides us with an excellent learning opportunity,” Ma told the Global Times. “At the same time, these executives gain a more comprehensive understanding of China’s market demands and innovation rhythm.”

Xiaomi Plans Overseas Market Entry by 2027

Xiaomi EV plans to enter overseas markets by 2027. The company’s transition from consumer electronics to EV manufacturing aligns with China’s industrial development priorities emphasizing digital and intelligent manufacturing advancement.

Founded in 2010, Xiaomi began as a consumer electronics company focused on smartphones and home appliances. The company’s smartphone smart factory in Beijing’s Changping district, which began operations in July 2024, has annual capacity of 10 million flagship phones and has been certified as a national-level intelligent manufacturing benchmark enterprise.
