2026 BMW i4 Gains Range, Power

BMW’s 2026 i4 gains efficiency from new SiC inverters, pushing eDrive40 beyond 300 miles and elevating the renamed i4 M60 to 593 hp and 3.6-second sprints. Production starts November 2025.

BMW has detailed efficiency and performance updates for the 2026 i4 lineup, highlighted by silicon-carbide (SiC) inverters across select models and a renamed, more powerful range-topper: the i4 M60. Production of the 2026 i4 family begins in November 2025 in time for U.S. deliveries soon after.

Highlights

  • SiC inverters boost power electronics efficiency and thermal robustness.
  • i4 eDrive40 now targets 300+ miles of EPA-procedural range on 18″ or 19″ wheels.
  • New i4 M60 replaces M50 with up to 593 hp and 0–60 mph in 3.6 s.
  • Feature updates: Seal & Drive Tire Kit standard, Drive Recorder added to Parking Assistant Professional, new Shadowline content, optional Glass Controls.

Efficiency upgrades with SiC inverters

BMW is adopting silicon-carbide components in the inverters to improve energy transfer from the high-voltage battery to the motors. SiC’s higher efficiency and heat resistance reduce losses and support sustained performance—an approach first announced on the i5 and now applied to the i4 eDrive40.

i4 eDrive40: over 300 miles projected

  • Projected blended range:
    • 18″ wheels: 333 miles
    • 19″ wheels: 307 miles
  • Range gain vs. 2025: +15 mi (18″), +12 mi (19″)

(Figures are preliminary BMW AG estimates using EPA procedures and may change at certification.)

i4 M60: more power, revised nameplate

BMW’s former i4 M50 evolves into the i4 M60, inheriting the efficiency benefits and adding a substantial power bump:

  • 510 hp at start-up (+41 hp vs. M50)
  • Up to 593 hp in My Modes Sport (+57 hp vs. M50)
  • 0–60 mph: 3.6 seconds
  • Projected blended range:
    • 19″ wheels: 278 miles (+11 mi vs. 2025)
    • 20″ wheels: 232 miles (+5 mi vs. 2025)

Equipment and packaging updates

  • Standard: Seal & Drive Tire Kit.
  • Parking Assistant Professional now includes Drive Recorder.
  • Shadowline package (eDrive40, xDrive40) adds black mirror caps and M Sport brakes (blue calipers); both also available as standalone options.
  • Glass Controls now optional on all i4 models.

Production timing

  • Start of production (SOP): November 2025 for the full 2026 i4 range.
