Acciona Wins Madrid’s Largest Urban EV Hub

Acciona will build Madrid's largest renewable EV charging hub inside the M-30 ring road, featuring 20 ultra-fast chargers with 4,000 kW total capacity, opening in 2027.

Acciona has secured a contract from the Madrid regional government to build and operate the largest 100% renewable public EV charging hub within the city’s M-30 ring road. The facility will deliver 4,000 kilowatts of total installed capacity. It is expected to become operational in 2027.

The 1,281-square-meter site sits at 276 Paseo de la Castellana. This prime location faces the Four Towers business district. It also falls within the future Madrid Nuevo Norte development area.

Highlights

  • 20 ultra-fast charging points rated up to 400 kW will serve 19 regular vehicles and one heavy-duty vehicle, alongside a battery-swapping station for Silence electric vehicles.
  • The hub will run on 100% certified renewable energy, with rooftop solar panels generating a net annual surplus exceeding 35,000 kWh.
  • A photocatalytic façade will actively remove pollutants and purify surrounding air, supported by a real-time renewable energy traceability system.
  • Acciona will operate the facility for 30 years, reinforcing its growing role in urban transport electrification across Spain and Portugal.

Transforming a Former Petrol Station

The project will convert a decommissioned petrol station into next-generation electric mobility infrastructure. It is designed as more than a charging point. Instead, it serves as an open, accessible urban space aligned with Madrid’s decarbonization goals.

The facility functions as a full “mobility hub.” A single canopy will integrate all charging points with a dedicated user services area. The ground floor will feature a vending area and accessible restrooms. Meanwhile, a first-floor multipurpose space will host outreach and educational events related to electric mobility.

Sustainable Design and Materials

The project emphasizes sustainable, low-impact construction materials. These include:

  • Wood structural elements
  • Photocatalytic ceramic exterior surfaces
  • Locally sourced natural stone finishes

This architectural approach prioritizes environmental performance alongside functionality. As a result, the hub reflects Acciona’s broader commitment to infrastructure that combines innovation with social value.

Acciona’s Growing EV Network

Acciona currently provides access to more than 5,000 charging points. These serve urban areas and major intercity corridors across Spain and Portugal. The Madrid hub represents a significant expansion of the company’s public charging footprint in a major European capital.

With this project, Acciona positions itself as a key player in urban transport electrification. The facility anticipates the city model of the future by blending technological innovation with environmental sustainability.
