Home charging specialist Andersen and Octopus Energy have launched a joint offer that makes electric vehicle (EV) ownership more cost-effective than petrol, even when including the purchase and installation of a home charge point.
Highlights
- 5,000 miles of free EV charging through Andersen and Intelligent Octopus Go
- Drivers can save up to £1,257 in the first year versus petrol
- Andersen Quartz home charger offsets its £1,130 cost within one year
- Smart tariff charging costs as low as £0.07/kWh for overnight charging

Lower Running Costs with Smart Charging
Based on an average annual mileage of 8,740 miles, a typical EV consumes around 2,648 kWh of electricity annually. At the UK’s average tariff of £0.23 per kWh, this equates to approximately £609 in yearly energy costs—significantly less than a petrol car’s estimated £1,336 in fuel.
When paired with Octopus Energy’s Intelligent Octopus Go tariff, which charges as little as £0.07/kWh, annual EV charging costs fall to £185, delivering an additional £424 in savings versus standard tariffs and £1,151 compared to petrol.

Free Miles and Faster Payback
Andersen’s offer of 5,000 free miles—worth roughly £106—reduces first-year running costs to just £79. Even after purchasing and installing an Andersen Quartz home charger (from £1,130 installed), EV drivers still save £127 compared with annual petrol costs and achieve full payback within the first year.
“Motorists choosing electric vehicles have the opportunity to make major savings,” said David Martell, CEO of Andersen. “Our Quartz charger, combined with Intelligent Octopus Go and free mileage, delivers a premium charging experience and exceptional cost efficiency.”
