Autocharge+ Expands: Over 50 EV Models

EVgo Inc., a leading figure in the US public fast-charging realm for electric vehicles (EVs), has recently made headlines by expanding its Autocharge+ feature to accommodate over 50 electric vehicle models. This innovative service simplifies the charging process for EV drivers, offering a plug-and-charge solution that eliminates the need for an app, RFID card, or credit card to initiate charging. The move represents a significant step forward in enhancing customer convenience and promoting EV adoption by streamlining the charging experience.

Key Highlights:

  • Autocharge+ now supports over 50 EV models, allowing a broader range of EV drivers to benefit from this seamless charging feature.
  • Significant growth has been observed in the use of Autocharge+ across the EVgo network, with nearly double the percentage of charging sessions initiated through this feature in the last quarter of 2023.
  • EVgo aims to further expand Autocharge+ compatibility, including plans for integration with NACS connectors.
  • Stacey Stewart, SVP of Charging at EVgo, emphasizes the importance of convenient and efficient charging solutions in promoting EV adoption.
  • The “One & Done” success rate has improved significantly, with Autocharge+ playing a crucial role in this achievement.

Since its introduction in September 2022, Autocharge+ has rapidly evolved, underscoring EVgo’s commitment to enhancing the EV charging experience. In 2023, Autocharge+ nearly doubled its session initiation, accounting for about 17% of all charging actions in the fourth quarter. The feature is compatible with most EVs equipped with CCS connectors and certain Tesla models through the CCS Combo 1 Adapter, signifying a substantial advancement in accessibility for EV drivers.

Stacey Stewart highlighted the pivotal role of Autocharge+ in fostering EV adoption, stating, “The key to achieving widespread EV adoption in the U.S. is giving EV drivers a convenient, streamlined charging experience, and Autocharge+ does just that.” This commitment is further evidenced by EVgo’s ongoing collaborations with automakers and continuous interoperability testing, ensuring that Autocharge+ remains a versatile and user-friendly option for EV drivers.

Furthermore, Autocharge+ has significantly contributed to the improvement of EVgo’s “One & Done” success rate. This metric, indicative of a driver’s ability to successfully initiate a charge on their first attempt, saw a six-percentage-point increase over 2023, thanks in part to Autocharge+ and the diagnostic efforts of the EVgo Innovation Lab.
