BorgWarner has initiated the production of eMotor rotors and stators for XPeng Motors, marking a pivotal advancement in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. This collaboration will see BorgWarner’s cutting-edge technology featured in XPeng’s highly anticipated X9 MPV and its forthcoming electric B-class sedan, set to commence production in the third quarter of 2024.

The partnership leverages BorgWarner’s High Voltage Hairpin (HVH) 220 eMotor, renowned for its superior power, torque density, and efficiency at an economical price point. Furthermore, the HVH220 eMotor is celebrated for its remarkable durability, offering an impressive operational range of up to 800V. It employs a stator with a 220 mm outer diameter, utilizing BorgWarner’s exclusive high voltage hairpin winding technology alongside advanced permanent magnet rotor and stator insulation technologies. This ensures unparalleled durability and reliability. The motor is capable of generating up to 300kW of power and achieving peak speeds of 18,000 rpm, with efficiencies exceeding 97%.

Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are excited to supply this leading OEM with our proven stator and rotor, boosting the development of China’s electric vehicle industry. BorgWarner’s in-depth product expertise will support XPeng as they progress in designing their electric drives.”

A noteworthy innovation by BorgWarner in this partnership is the development of oil-cooled solutions for their motors. This technology, which involves cooling the motor with gearbox oil, significantly enhances heat transfer and system heat rejection capabilities. The introduction of direct rotor oil cooling also allows for the extraction of heat directly from the motor core, facilitating higher torque and power density achievements.

About BorgWarner: BorgWarner, with over 130 years of history, has established itself as a transformative leader in global product innovation. The company is at the forefront of accelerating the transition to eMobility, committed to fostering a cleaner, healthier, and safer future.
