Bosch Engineering GmbH is revolutionizing motorsport with a new hydrogen-based concept unveiled at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The company’s innovative approach focuses on climate-friendly powertrains, utilizing high-performance technologies to reduce the carbon footprint of racing. Central to this initiative is the L-HSCU liquid hydrogen storage control unit, designed to safely manage hydrogen in vehicles. This system supports both liquid and pressurized hydrogen storage, making it versatile for various motorsport applications. Bosch’s advancements are showcased in the H24EVO hydrogen prototype, highlighting the potential for sustainable endurance racing.
Key Highlights:
- L-HSCU Technology: Ensures safe hydrogen storage and management in race cars.
- H24EVO Prototype: Features Bosch’s control unit in a fuel-cell-powered demo vehicle.
- Liquid Hydrogen Storage: Offers higher density, requiring less space in vehicles.
- Safety Features: Includes sensors and protective circuits to monitor and address anomalies.
- Future Applications: Bosch is developing concepts for high-performance road sports cars.

The L-HSCU system is a breakthrough in hydrogen storage, controlling the entire process from refueling to fuel delivery. Liquid hydrogen, cooled to -253°C, is stored in low-temperature tanks, allowing for compact designs critical in race cars. Sensors monitor pressure and temperature, triggering safety measures like gas dilution fans if needed. The system also streamlines refueling, communicating with external systems for efficiency. In the H24EVO, developed under the MissionH24 program, Bosch leverages its motorsport expertise to test this technology under extreme conditions, proving hydrogen’s viability in racing.
Beyond motorsport, Bosch is adapting these technologies for road vehicles, focusing on pressurized hydrogen storage and emissions concepts. The H24EVO will be displayed at the H2 Village during Le Mans, with demo laps scheduled for June 12 and 14, 2025. Bosch’s efforts underscore a commitment to sustainable mobility, aligning with global environmental goals and setting a new standard for motorsport innovation.
