Bonnell Launches 805 RX Electric Dirt Bike

Bonnell has launched the 805 RX electric dirt bike at $8,250, opening its new e-Moto range with 56 hp, a swappable 3.9 kWh battery and Sirris suspension.

Bonnell has launched the 805 RX electric dirt bike at a starting MSRP of $8,250, the first model in the Austin, Texas company’s new e-Moto range. The mid-size platform pairs a Bonnell-designed powertrain rated at 56 hp (42 kW) and 594 lb-ft (805 Nm) of rear-wheel torque with a stated weight of 218 pounds (99 kg). Bonnell, an electric two-wheel brand that already sells electric mountain bikes, says the 805 RX is available immediately in the U.S. both online and through its dealer network.

Powertrain and Performance

Bonnell describes a clean-sheet development approach that integrates motor, battery, chassis, suspension, rider controls and software into a single platform rather than optimizing for peak power alone. The company says full-system tuning lets riders shape power delivery around their capability and terrain, making the bike accessible to less experienced riders while allowing advanced riders to access its full output.

Five customizable ride modes plus reverse can be configured independently, with adjustments for speed limits, traction control and off-throttle regeneration, and switched while riding. A parental lock allows an owner to cap maximum power, speed and torque behind a password while leaving other settings available to the rider.

How Does the Swappable Battery Work?

The 805 RX carries a removable 3.9 kWh Core Battery that Bonnell says can be exchanged for a charged pack in roughly 30 seconds, or pulled at the end of a ride for secure, temperature-controlled charging. The company says the platform is engineered to accept future backwards-compatible packs as cell technology advances. Bonnell’s use of a swappable battery architecture is paired with a 1500W charger supplied as standard, compatible with 110V and 220V supply and rated for a full charge in about two hours. An optional 2500W fast charger cuts that to under an hour on 220V while retaining 110V compatibility.

Chassis, Suspension and Brakes

The frame is forged aluminum and paired with a hydroformed swingarm, a combination Bonnell says allows purpose-built shapes while limiting mass. Suspension comes from Sirris, developed over two years of testing across trail, motocross and hard enduro, with an F43 fork and R46 shock providing 9.6 inches (245 mm) of travel at both ends. The company says settings were refined using feedback from more than 20 riders.

Braking uses custom Bonnell forged calipers with dual 22 mm pistons front and rear. Bonnell says the forged construction balances strength and weight without the additional material a comparable cast design would require, and that the dual-piston rear setup was engineered around the demands of a high-performance electric moto. Brake levers are adjustable for position and feel.

Rider Controls and Display

Bonnell’s patented Electronic Finger Lever uses a miniature Hall-effect throttle mechanism to control both on/off and variable functions, including traction control, speed limiting, wheel lift assist, regenerative braking and e-clutch. The company says it can also serve as a backup throttle or variable regenerative brake if another control is damaged.

The Pulse Control System combines the display, Joy-Con and finger lever into a single interface with Precision, Performance and Race layouts and a built-in lap timer. Bonnell says the 805 RX is the first e-Moto to show motor, controller and battery temperatures directly on the rider display, alongside speed, power limits, trip data and maintenance information. Tuning runs through the Bonnell e-Moto App in basic or advanced modes, which the company says carries no subscription or additional charge for software updates.

Bonnell states the 805 RX is designed and intended exclusively for off-road use, and that published performance figures are manufacturer estimates that may vary with riding and environmental conditions.

Racing and Availability

Factory rider Max Beaupre recently took the Pro Electric class title in the US Hard Enduro Championship aboard a prototype 805 RX, and Bonnell says the resulting race feedback fed into development of the production platform. The company says it will continue racing the 805 RX across additional off-road disciplines, using competition to further prove the electric dirt bike‘s performance and durability.

The bike is on sale now in the U.S. online or through Bonnell’s network of official dealers, with dealer purchases including a feature walkthrough and rider setup. Every unit ships with a purpose-built toolkit containing a torque wrench, spoke wrench, headset bearing spanner, combination spanners, sockets, Torx keys, a T-handle socket wrench and hand tools in an EVA-foam case.

“We built the 805 to be a bike that doesn’t put riders in a box,” said Matt Wauters, Bonnell CEO and Founder. “Whether someone is getting into electric dirt bikes for the first time, riding technical enduro terrain, or pushing the bike at an expert level, the 805 tailors the performance and control to their ride and their capabilities. Versatility is really what the 805 is all about.”

Bonnell says it will expand the e-Moto range with additional models and configurations, including a full-size 902 currently in development for 2027.
