Nissan has signed a multi-year agreement to supply its Formula E GEN4 powertrain to Andretti Formula E beginning with Season 13 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The deal pairs Nissan with one of the series’ longest-standing teams: Andretti Formula E, which won the 2023 FIA Formula E Drivers’ World Championship with driver Jake Dennis. Four Nissan-powered cars are expected on the grid once the supply arrangement takes effect. The announcement came in Tokyo this week, ahead of the Japanese capital’s first-ever night E-Prix and one of the most significant weeks of the season for the Nissan Formula E Team.

A New Customer Team for the GEN4 Era
Formula E is a pillar of Nissan’s global electrification strategy, and the Andretti agreement extends that commitment into the series’ next technical chapter. Nissan and Andretti Formula E will work closely throughout the GEN4 era, combining engineering knowledge and sporting experience as both organizations look to maximize performance in the championship.
Andretti Formula E has competed at the front of the field for years and enters the partnership with a title already on its résumé. The collaboration also draws on the experience of two FIA Formula E Drivers’ World Champions — reigning titleholder Oliver Rowland and Andretti’s Jake Dennis — who will both contribute technical feedback as the program develops.
Timed to Tokyo’s First Night E-Prix
Nissan announced the agreement in Tokyo during the Nissan Formula E Team’s final home race weekend of the GEN3 era, ahead of the city’s first-ever night E-Prix. To mark the occasion, the team will run a special one-off NISMO-inspired livery celebrating Nissan’s motorsport heritage.
Nissan’s Formula E Timeline
Nissan entered Formula E in Season 5 (2018/19) as the first and only Japanese manufacturer in the championship, and it committed to the GEN3 era through Season 12 in Season 7 (2020/21). In April 2022, Nissan acquired the e.dams race team, taking full ownership of its Formula E involvement. In March 2024, ahead of the first Tokyo E-Prix, Nissan became the first manufacturer to sign on for the GEN4 era, running through 2030 and reinforcing its Ambition 2030 electrification targets.
Nissan Formula E Team won the Drivers’ World Championship in Season 11 (2024/25) with Oliver Rowland, who took seven podiums, four victories and three pole positions to clinch the title with two races to spare. That commitment carried into this year, when the team retained Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato for Season 12 as it prepared for the move to GEN4 machinery.
Nissan won’t be the only manufacturer adjusting to the new era. Porsche’s customer program has already been logging test miles ahead of the GEN4 car’s on-track debut, underscoring how competitive the grid is expected to be once the new generation arrives.
