Bosch’s new rigid e-axle integrates the electric motor and transmission into a single unit for commercial vehicles weighing 19.8 to 54 US tons (18 to 49 metric tons), the company says, anchoring a powertrain lineup at IAA Transportation 2026 that also spans 100-to-300-kilowatt fuel-cell systems and hydrogen-engine components. The supplier presented the rigid e-axle alongside a high-voltage blower module for 800-volt architectures and a cloud-based fuel-tracking tool for fleets running renewable synthetic fuels. Rigid E-Axle and 800-Volt Thermal Management
Bosch says the rigid e-axle reduces vehicle weight and operates more efficiently than a conventional electric center drive. Combined with silicon carbide inverters that the company rates at up to 99 percent efficiency, the axle is intended to lower operating costs in freight transport. Bosch states that a global manufacturing and supply network delivers the unit directly to customer sites in all relevant markets.
On the thermal side, the company is introducing a high-voltage blower module developed for 800-volt architectures in electric commercial vehicles and off-highway equipment. The module supplies on-demand cooling for key components, which Bosch says reduces energy consumption and supports range and efficiency.
Fuel-Cell Systems From 100 to 300 Kilowatts
Bosch’s fuel-cell portfolio covers a power range of 100 to 300 kilowatts in compact, integrated systems, according to the company. That span is intended to serve city buses, long-haul trucks, and stationary applications. The supplier recently placed its 190-kilowatt module in passenger service in Madrid, its first customer project in the bus segment.
Compared with a purely battery-electric powertrain, Bosch says fuel cells offer lower system weight, longer range, and faster refueling. The company describes the technology as locally emission-free, producing water and electricity from hydrogen and oxygen.
Hydrogen Engines and Alternative Fuels
Since 2025, Bosch has supplied test vehicles and fleets worldwide with injectors, control units, and sensors for both direct and intake-manifold hydrogen injection, plus components for hydrogen tank systems. Because the powertrain builds on established engine architectures, the company says automakers can retain existing development and production lines. Bosch also states that the hydrogen engine requires virtually no hard-to-source raw materials such as rare earth elements or precious metals.
The company additionally offers solutions for natural gas/methane, ethanol, and methanol, often developed for specific regions or applications.
Digital Fuel Twin Tracks Renewable Fuel Use
For fleets that are difficult to electrify, Bosch is offering a cloud-based digital fuel twin. The software automatically tracks the use of renewable synthetic fuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and documents the resulting emissions reduction, according to the company. Bosch positions the tool for operators using organic and electricity-based synthetic fuels in existing vehicles.
The e-axle and fuel-cell offerings extend a commercial-vehicle push that has included a fuel-cell truck deployed for plant logistics at Bosch’s Nuremberg site.
