Bosch Unveils 800-Volt Electrification System for Farm Machinery

Bosch Engineering’s new 800-volt electric drive delivers high efficiency, power density, and flexibility for agricultural machinery—reducing emissions and costs while simplifying integration across multiple farm applications.

Bosch Engineering has introduced a new high-performance 800-volt electric drive system optimized for agricultural machinery, offering exceptional efficiency, compact dimensions, and reduced operating costs. The system debuts at AGRITECHNICA 2025, where Bosch highlights its commitment to sustainable, high-torque electrification for off-highway applications.

Highlights

  • 800-volt electric drive delivers up to 188 kW and 550 Nm peak torque
  • Compact design enables easy integration into existing machine platforms
  • Efficiency above 99% thanks to silicon carbide (SiC) inverter technology
  • Flexible use as battery-electric or hybrid with diesel engines

High-Efficiency Electrification for Agricultural Use

The Bosch 800-volt system brings clear advantages for farm operations, including lower maintenance requirements, reduced total cost of ownership (TCO), and compatibility with renewable on-site power sources such as biogas or solar energy.

The Bosch SMG230 electric motor and SiC-equipped inverter form the heart of the system. Operating at up to 850 volts, the motor achieves a continuous power output of 188 kW and 250 Nm of torque, with short bursts reaching 550 Nm. The 800-volt architecture allows higher power density—up to 80 kW more than comparable 400-volt units—while maintaining lighter weight and smaller size.

Advanced Power Electronics and Integration

The use of silicon carbide semiconductors enables faster switching, lower heat loss, and superior efficiency exceeding 99%. The safety and diagnostic features are derived from proven automotive systems, adapted for the demands of mobile agricultural machinery.

Bosch Engineering offers comprehensive customer support for system integration, calibration, and application development to optimize performance in real-world agricultural use cases.

Collaboration with Bosch Rexroth

To enhance system versatility, Bosch Engineering’s electrification platform is compatible with Bosch Rexroth’s eGFV9120 coaxial gearbox and the open BODAS ecosystem. This enables seamless integration of powertrain, control, and transmission solutions, allowing OEMs to electrify new or existing vehicle platforms efficiently.
