BYD recently marked two significant milestones: the inauguration of its Thailand plant and the production of its 8 millionth new energy vehicle. The event drew notable attendees, including Thailand’s Minister of Industry, the Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, and senior BYD executives.

BYD’s Thailand plant, completed in just 16 months, has an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles. The facility integrates processes such as stamping, painting, welding, final assembly, and component production, aiming to generate 10,000 jobs. The Dolphin model was showcased as the 8 millionth new energy vehicle produced by BYD.
Minister Pimphattra Wichaikul lauded BYD’s impact on the new energy vehicle sector, stating, “BYD is a world-leading automobile manufacturer and a pioneer in China’s new energy vehicle industry. BYD’s investment in Thailand, along with its advanced production technology, will drive the development of the new energy vehicle industry in Thailand and across ASEAN.”
Ambassador Han Zhiqiang emphasized the strong ties between China and Thailand, noting that BYD’s achievements signify a new chapter in their cooperative efforts in the new energy vehicle industry.
At the ceremony, Mr. Wang Chuanfu, BYD’s Chairman and President, expressed gratitude for the support from both governments, Thai customers, and partners. He highlighted BYD’s market leadership in Thailand, where it has been the top seller of pure electric vehicles for 18 months, and revealed plans to introduce more electric and plug-in hybrid models in the country.
Globally, BYD has made significant strides in the new energy vehicle market. In 2023, the company saw a 337% year-on-year increase in exports, reaching 243,000 vehicles. In the first half of 2024, BYD sold 1.607 million new energy vehicles worldwide, a 28% year-on-year increase, cementing its position as the industry leader. Of these, over 203,000 were exported, marking a 173.8% year-on-year growth. BYD’s new energy vehicles are now available in 88 countries and regions, with production bases in Thailand, Brazil, Hungary, and Uzbekistan.
Since producing its 1 millionth new energy vehicle in May 2021, BYD has rapidly scaled its production, reaching the 8 millionth milestone in just over three years. Looking ahead, BYD plans to continue its global market expansion, leveraging advanced technology and innovative products to meet diverse consumer needs. As more overseas factories become operational, BYD’s global production capacity is set to strengthen further, solidifying its leading position in the new energy vehicle market.
