Charge Rigs has released Install Planner, a cloud-based platform that lets electrical contractors design EV charging installations, generate proposals, manage approvals, and coordinate field operations in one system. The platform targets the growing bottleneck contractors face as charging infrastructure demand rises and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards evolve.
Highlights
- Drag-and-drop design tool includes 183+ pre-loaded EV components with real-time cost calculations and one-click branded PDF quote generation.
- AI Design Advisor scores installations on a 0–100 scale against NEC standards and flags compliance issues with specific code references before permit submission.
- Customer portal and e-signatures replace email-based approval chains, while a mobile field operations module equips crews with site plans, task checklists, and material pull lists.
- Early access contractors have designed more than 2,500 installations and generated over $12 million in quotes, with some firms reporting close rate gains of up to 40%.
Canvas Designer and Live Cost Engine
At the center of Install Planner is an interactive Canvas Designer. Contractors lay out site plans using a drag-and-drop interface with a library of Level 2 and Level 3 chargers, transformers, panels, and conduit routing components. Designs can overlay aerial imagery or uploaded site plans with calibrated real-world measurements.
As components are placed, a Live Cost Engine calculates material and labor costs in real time. Once a design is finalized, one-click PDF generation produces branded, itemized quotes. The company said this process previously took contractors two to four hours using spreadsheets and generic drawing tools. Install Planner compresses it to under 30 minutes.
AI-Powered Compliance Checking
The platform’s AI Design Advisor provides real-time engineering oversight. It evaluates each installation against NEC standards for service capacity, conductor sizing, grounding, and ADA compliance. When issues arise — such as an undersized conductor or overloaded panel — the advisor delivers prioritized recommendations with specific NEC article references.
An integrated Wire Sizing Calculator automates conductor selection based on load characteristics and derating factors. According to the development team, catching engineering errors during design takes minutes, while catching them during inspection costs days.
Customer Portal and Field Operations
A branded Customer Portal gives clients a secure environment to review designs, examine itemized cost breakdowns, leave comments, and sign proposals electronically. This replaces back-and-forth email approval chains.
For field crews, a mobile-optimized “My Day” view provides site plans, task checklists with one-tap completion, photo documentation capture, and Material Pull Lists generated from approved designs. The goal is to reduce return trips caused by forgotten materials.
Early Access Results
During the early access period, contractors reported significant operational improvements. Quoting capacity increased substantially, and some firms saw close rate improvements of up to 40%. Collectively, platform users have designed more than 2,500 installations and produced over $12 million in professional quotes.
Install Planner is available now with a 14-day free trial.
