Advancing Interoperability in E-Mobility
The EVRoaming Foundation drives the adoption of the OCPI protocol, an open and independent communication standard facilitating direct data exchange between charge point operators (CPOs) and e-mobility providers (EMPs). This protocol supports bilateral roaming and hub connections, offering technical and commercial flexibility. Chargecloud’s cloud-based software already leverages these standards, enabling its partners to access charging infrastructure seamlessly across European markets. By joining the foundation, chargecloud aims to enhance its expertise in protocol integration and contribute to the ongoing development of OCPI.
Markus Bach, CEO of chargecloud GmbH, emphasized the company’s vision: “Our goal is to provide our partners with better access to international markets and EV drivers with a seamless charging experience throughout Europe – open, interoperable, and future-proof.” He highlighted that chargecloud’s role in the foundation aligns with its responsibility to not only adopt but also shape industry standards, ensuring long-term interoperability in the European e-mobility ecosystem.
Collaborative Efforts for a Connected Future
The EVRoaming Foundation welcomed chargecloud’s membership as a testament to the growing importance of open standards in the e-mobility sector. Michel Bayings, Managing Director of the EVRoaming Foundation, noted, “With chargecloud, the EVRoaming Foundation is gaining a company with in-depth, long-standing market knowledge, a strong technological background, and a focus on practical solutions.” The foundation values chargecloud’s commitment to actively shaping OCPI’s development, fostering collaboration to create a transparent and connected charging infrastructure.
Chargecloud’s participation will involve contributing to working groups and engaging in dialogues to refine and expand the OCPI protocol. This collaborative approach ensures that the protocol remains robust and adaptable to the evolving needs of the e-mobility market, including support for the emerging electric heavy-duty vehicle (eHDV) sector.
