The Greater Cleveland area is set to see a significant expansion in electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure with the installation of 73 new curbside and fast chargers. This initiative is part of a broader project led by FLO, a North American leader in EV charging solutions, in collaboration with Alternalite EV and SAF Inc. The deployment marks the first phase of the Northeast Ohio Area-wide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) Electric Vehicle Charging Station Program, which aims to support the growing demand for sustainable transportation.

By the end of 2024, Northeast Ohio will benefit from a reliable and accessible EV charging network, thanks to this strategic partnership and funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

Key Highlights:

  • 73 EV chargers will be installed in the Greater Cleveland area, including 54 Level 2 CoRe+ stations and 19 Level 3 SmartDC fast charging stations.
  • Alternalite EV, a certified female, minority-owned business, and SAF Inc., a general construction company, are leading the deployment.
  • The project is part of Phase 1 of the NOACA Electric Vehicle Charging Station Program, supported by nearly $4 million in funding from the U.S. DOT.
  • FLO’s charging network supports over 1.5 million charging sessions per month across 115,000 stations in North America.
  • The project aligns with Northeast Ohio’s goal of creating a sustainable and reliable EV charging infrastructure.

FLO’s President and CEO, Louis Tremblay, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “This initiative in Northeast Ohio represents a significant step towards a future where EV charging is convenient and dependable, supporting the transition to clean transportation for all.”

Alternalite EV and SAF Inc. are critical players in the deployment, bringing years of experience and a strong commitment to sustainable energy solutions. Jose Ramos, co-founder of Alternalite EV, expressed excitement about the growth of EV adoption in the region, stating: “Alternalite EV recognizes the importance of sustainable transportation. Our commitment to safety, reliability and customer satisfaction sets us apart.”

In addition to this initial phase, NOACA has secured an additional $15 million grant for Phase 2 of the EV Charging Station Program, further expanding the network’s reach. With the full deployment expected by December 31, 2024, Cleveland is positioning itself as a leader in clean transportation, supporting the increasing number of EV drivers with convenient, accessible charging options.
