Windrose E700 Sets UK Electric Truck Charging Record

Windrose Technology's E700 electric HGV set a UK charging record at 600 kW, receiving 352 kWh in 42 minutes during a Voltempo HyperCharger demonstration.

Windrose Technology has recorded the fastest electric HGV charging session in the UK. The company’s E700 truck achieved 600 kW charging speeds using Voltempo’s Megawatt-scale HyperCharger during a demonstration tour. The session operated at 745 amps, setting a new benchmark for high-power commercial EV charging in Britain.

Highlights

  • Windrose’s E700 charged at 600 kW and 745 amps on Voltempo’s HyperCharger, marking the fastest UK electric HGV charging session to date
  • The truck received 352 kWh over 42 minutes, adding more than 250 miles of range
  • The E700 is rated for up to 870 kW and over 1,000 amps, suggesting further records ahead
  • The milestone signals growing viability of ultra-rapid charging for long-haul electric freight

Charging Performance Details

Over a 42-minute session, the E700 received 352 kWh of electricity. That translates to more than 250 miles of added range, according to Windrose data verified by Voltempo.

Windrose CEO and founder Wen Han framed the result in operational terms.

“745 amps on the Voltempo Hypercharger. A UK record,” Han said. “This proves electric HGVs are no longer theoretical. They are operational, credible, and scaling — fast.”

Han also pointed to economics as a driver. “For fleets, the equation is simple: faster charging drives utilisation. As oil prices rise, the cost advantage becomes clearer,” he said.

Infrastructure Implications for Freight

The demonstration highlighted how ultra-rapid charging networks can support fleet electrification at scale. Vehicle uptime and turnaround times remain critical factors in long-haul logistics. High-power charging addresses both by minimizing dwell time.

Voltempo CEO Simon Smith noted the practical impact. “Truck drivers must stop every 4.5 hours, for 45 minutes, and in that time you can add around 270 miles,” Smith said. “You simply can’t drive that distance in the next four hours at an average of 56 mph. In effect, you’re charging faster than you can use the energy.”

Smith also emphasized the cross-border collaboration behind the achievement. “It’s also a story of both UK and Chinese innovation, and how collaboration is essential for success,” he added.

E700 Specifications and Pricing

The Windrose E700 carries a retail price of £220,000. The truck supports charging rates up to 870 kW and over 1,000 amps, well above the levels achieved in this session. Han indicated further records are expected soon.
