DHL Supply Chain, a leader in logistics, is setting a powerful example in the race for environmental sustainability. Their recent acquisition of 50 Orange EV electric yard trucks marks a significant milestone in their journey to phase out diesel vehicles and achieve net-zero emissions. This commitment builds on their pioneering spirit, having been the first company to commercially deploy a heavy-duty electric truck eight years ago.
The partnership between DHL and Orange EV is a testament to their shared vision for a greener future. With over 30 Orange EV trucks already deployed across the country, DHL estimates they have eliminated more than 2,500 tons of CO2 emissions annually. These trucks also boast exceptional uptime (98% compared to 70-80% for diesel) and cost savings through reduced fuel, maintenance, and repair costs.
“We cannot ignore the impact our operations have on the environment,” said Stephan Schablinski, VP, GoGreen, DHL Supply Chain. “Through partnerships with companies like Orange EV, we have been able to develop innovative solutions that reimagine the industry of logistics and take us closer to a green future.”
Orange EV, the leading heavy-duty electric truck manufacturer, provides customized solutions to meet individual needs. Their versatile trucks and charging systems cater to various battery sizes, charging speeds, and operational requirements.
“DHL Supply Chain’s early adoption of electric trucks has been instrumental in driving the industry forward,” said Wayne Mathisen, CEO and co-founder of Orange EV. “Their dedication to sustainability has inspired countless other companies to make the switch to cleaner technologies.”
This commitment is evident in Diageo, a global beverage giant, who were the first customers to utilize Orange EV trucks at their facilities. Their two aptly named “Sparky” trucks have surpassed expectations, each exceeding 17,000 hours of operation on their original batteries.
“This collaboration with DHL Supply Chain has been invaluable in our efforts to decarbonize our operations,” said Lucy Fishwick, VP of Logistics, Diageo North America. “Their leadership in electric vehicles sets a benchmark for the industry.”
The success of these early adopters is a testament to the durability and efficiency of Orange EV trucks, many exceeding 15,000 hours of operation with minimal maintenance. This longevity further reinforces the economic and environmental benefits of switching to electric.
DHL’s commitment doesn’t stop at 50 trucks. They plan to double their electric fleet, reaching 100 Orange EV vehicles in the near future. This unwavering dedication to sustainability is paving the way for a greener future in logistics, proving that environmental responsibility and business success can go hand in hand.
