Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA) has achieved a significant milestone by delivering the first of two battery electric Freightliner eCascadias in Mexico to Transportes Esteban, a prominent figure in the cargo transportation sector with 22 years of experience. This delivery marks the entrance of the electric Class 8 truck into day-to-day operations at Daimler Truck Mexico’s truck manufacturing plant (TMP) in Santiago.
In a parallel development, the Santiago TMP has been designated as the site of the second commercial vehicle charging facility in Mexico. This initiative, drawing on the pioneering experience of DTNA’s “Electric Island” in Portland established in 2021, underscores DTNA Mexico’s commitment to addressing customer needs and advancing electric vehicle (EV) adoption.
Marcela Barreiro, President & CEO of Daimler Truck Mexico, stated, “Today we are celebrating a historic moment in which we take a look at the future of Daimler Truck mobility with two great events: the start of operations of the first all-electric Freightliner unit in Mexico with Transportes Esteban and the inauguration of the second Electric Island in Mexico, now at Daimler Truck Santiago TMP.”
The second “Electric Island” within the Santiago TMP is equipped with a Detroit eFill charger, boasting a charging capacity of up to 120kW. This setup is designed to charge the eCascadia’s battery to 80% in approximately 220 minutes, integrating intelligent charging management software to optimize energy use and integrate vehicle, station, and charging process information.
Since its inception in 2022, the battery-electric Freightliner eCascadia has been delivered to over 50 fleets across North America, accumulating more than 3.5 million electric miles in real-world customer applications. This progress is indicative of Daimler Truck Mexico’s forward movement in the shift towards zero-emission mobility and its leadership in sustainable transportation solutions.
This strategic move not only reinforces Daimler Truck Mexico’s commitment to environmental sustainability but also positions the company at the forefront of the technological evolution in the transportation industry, promising a cleaner, more sustainable future for road freight.
