The all-electric Mercedes-Benz GLC has been named German Premium Car of the Year 2027 by the jury of the German Car of the Year (GCOTY) Awards. According to Mercedes-Benz, the jury recognized the electric GLC for its well-rounded overall concept and its balanced, comfortable driving character. The award was presented this week at a ceremony at the Nationales Automuseum – The Loh Collection.

Award Recognizes Mercedes-Benz’s Bestselling Model Line
The company says the GLC model line has long been its bestseller worldwide. With the all-electric GLC, Mercedes-Benz aims to keep the qualities that made the GLC popular with customers and develop them further for the electric variant.
Mercedes-Benz says it developed the electric GLC around customer needs and everyday use. The company cites long-distance comfort, everyday practicality, ease of use, and interior space. It also names the vehicle’s safety and driver assistance systems and a user experience centered on people as part of what it calls the brand’s “Welcome home” feeling.
The recognition comes during the company’s “140 Years of Innovation” anniversary year.

What Features Does the Electric GLC Offer?
According to the company, the optional AIRMATIC air suspension and 4.5-degree rear-axle steering improve ride comfort and agility. The frunk and the towing rating of up to 5,291 lb (2.4 tonnes) are intended to support everyday use, leisure, and travel.
- MBUX Hyperscreen: This optional 39.1-inch (99.3 cm) display runs on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS).
- MB.OS: The operating system connects infotainment, comfort, charging, and driver assistance. It also supports regular over-the-air updates through the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud.
- MB.DRIVE: This driver assistance suite includes DISTRONIC Distance Assist and Parking Assist as standard. Optional packages extend functionality up to SAE Level 2 supported assisted driving and add 360-degree surround visibility when parking.
How Are GCOTY Award Winners Selected?
The GCOTY Awards jury is made up of German automotive journalists, content creators, and international jurors. Since 2026, the panel has also included a select group of guest jurors. Together, jurors test-drive and evaluate all significant new vehicle launches on the European market.
Each vehicle is judged against competitors in its own segment and also in a cross-category comparison across the field.
