Opel Mokka GSE Rally Set for German Debut

The ADAC Opel GSE Rally Cup makes its German debut at the ADAC Rallye Stemweder Berg around Lübbecke on September 25 and 26, 2026, with the 207 kW (281 hp) Opel Mokka GSE Rally contesting every special stage of a German Rally Championship round for the first time. The event is the fourth of seven rounds in what Opel describes as the world’s first electric rally one-make cup. Opel says a mobile “remote charging” system is what allows the electric cars to run the full distance, and 13 teams from nine nations are entered for the asphalt event.

How Does Remote Charging Work?

According to Opel, the Mokka GSE Rally cars can recharge between two special stages outside the service park thanks to remote charging infrastructure introduced this season. The charging cubes are transported to where they are needed on battery-electric tractor-trailers, which the company says lets both the rally cars and the tow vehicles operate locally emissions-free.

The company points to a side benefit: with the cars completing every stage, the electric Mokka GSE Rally will be listed in the Stemweder Berg overall standings rather than only in its own classification, as was previously the case.

The rally car produces up to 207 kW (281 hp) and 254 lb-ft (345 Nm) of torque, which Opel places at Rally4 level.

“With our innovative remote charging infrastructure and the new Opel Mokka GSE Rally, we are setting new standards in electric rallying. 207 kW, 345 Newton metres, this is performance at Rally4 level – and a message to the conventionally powered competition. It shows the massive progress we have made over the past five years,” said Opel Motorsport Director Jörg Schrott.

Three-Way Battle at the Top

Thirteen teams from nine nations are entered for the round. The company reports that Frenchman Tom Dufour, Welshman Ioan Lloyd, and German Timo Schulz have set the pace through the first three rallies. Dufour leads Lloyd by three points in the overall standings. Schulz has two victories this season but sits third, 19 points behind, after retiring from the Rallye Vosges Grand-Est in France. With 35 points available per rally and four rounds remaining, the title remains open.

Fan-Designed Livery and the Road-Going Mokka GSE

At Stemweder Berg, Schulz and co-driver Maresa Lade will drive a specially designed Mokka GSE Rally for the first time. Opel Germany and Opel Motorsport asked their social media community how they envisioned the electric rally car’s styling; the result is a colorful design that, according to Opel, emphasizes the brand’s German origin with the Blitz emblem.

Opel positions the rally car as a close relative of the production Mokka GSE, which delivers equivalent power. GSE stands for “Grand Sport Electric” in both the competition car and the road model, and the company says essential components and insights from the rally car have been carried over to its production counterpart. ADAC Rallye Stemweder Berg Schedule

The rally comprises 14 special stages over 88.1 miles (141.8 km). The start is set for Friday, September 25, at 5:04 p.m. CEST. Four stages run before the cars enter parc fermé, the secured overnight holding area, at approximately 9:18 p.m. CEST. Competition resumes Saturday at 8:04 a.m. CEST, with the finish in Lübbecke expected shortly after 8:00 p.m. CEST. Live timing is available through ADAC Motorsport.
