Electrify America and Simon have reached a new milestone in their infrastructure partnership. The companies recently announced the installation of over 500 Hyper-Fast chargers across Simon’s retail properties. This network now spans 27 states and two Canadian provinces.
Highlights
- Network Growth: Over 500 chargers are now operational across 105 stations.
- Wide Reach: The collaboration covers 27 states and two Canadian provinces.
- High Utilization: The partnership has powered over 549 million EV miles since 2018.
- Performance: Chargers offer speeds up to 350 kW for rapid energy delivery.
Infrastructure Expansion and Usage Data
The collaboration between Electrify America and Simon began in 2018 at Gulfport Premium Outlets. Since that initial deployment, the partnership has focused on integrating electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure into high-traffic retail environments.
This strategy aims to align charging sessions with consumer activities. According to released data, the alliance has achieved significant throughput metrics since inception:
- 500+ individual Hyper-Fast chargers installed.
- 105 distinct station locations.
- 549+ million electric vehicle miles powered.
Site Configurations and Technical Specifications
Recent installations utilize large-format designs to accommodate higher vehicle volume. A prime example is the station at Fashion Valley in San Diego, California. This specific location features 20 Hyper-Fast chargers, representing the latest station architecture.
The hardware deployed across these sites is designed for high-performance charging.
- Power Output: Chargers are capable of speeds up to 350 kilowatts (kW).
- Charging Time: Compatible vehicles can charge in as little as 20 minutes.
- Convenience: Locations are selected to merge charging with retail and dining.
Operational Strategy
Anthony Lambkin, vice president of operations at Electrify America, emphasized the strategic placement of these assets. He noted that locating Hyper-Fast charging at premier retail destinations supports the transition to electric mobility by fitting into drivers’ daily routines.
Simon views the infrastructure as a critical facility amenity. Daniel Segal, vice president of business development at Simon, stated that the initiative elevates the shopping experience. It allows visitors to maximize their time by recharging their vehicles while visiting retail outlets.
User Interface and Connectivity
To streamline the user experience, the network relies on digital integration. The Electrify America mobile app allows users to locate stations, monitor charging progress, and view pricing transparency.
Furthermore, the stations are equipped with Plug & Charge technology. This system allows compatible vehicles to communicate directly with the charger. Drivers can initiate a session by simply plugging in the vehicle, eliminating the need for manual payment via card or smartphone.
