Electrify America and the New York Power Authority (NYPA) have opened a four-unit hyper-fast charging station at the Rochester Institute of Technology Inn & Conference Center in Henrietta, New York. The station expands EV charging access in the Finger Lakes region and brings NYPA’s statewide EVolve NY network to 282 fast chargers across 66 locations.
Highlights
- Four 350 kW hyper-fast chargers with CCS connectors capable of charging compatible EVs in approximately 20 minutes
- Ninth NEVI-funded site in New York State, strategically positioned near I-90 and I-390 highway corridors
- EVolve NY network expansion on track to reach 400 chargers statewide within the next year
- New York State infrastructure now includes more than 2,800 public fast chargers at 636 locations

Strategic Location Serves Multiple Corridors
The Henrietta charging hub is located off Brooks Road near the intersection of NYS Routes 90 and 390. The site provides convenient access to the Frederick Douglass Rochester International Airport. New York State Empire State Development recommended the location based on highway proximity and available amenities.
The chargers serve RIT students and faculty while remaining open to the public. Other EVolve NY fast chargers in the Rochester-Finger Lakes region are available in Bath, Skaneateles, Fairport, Victor, Churchville, Spencerport, Phelps, Geneva, and Watkins Glen.
NEVI Funding Accelerates Deployment
The station represents New York’s ninth site funded by the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. Created under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, NEVI provides New York State $175 million in dedicated funding for Level 3 Direct Current Fast Charging infrastructure near interstate highway exits.
Multiple state agencies collaborated on New York’s NEVI plan:
- New York State Department of Transportation
- New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)
- New York State Department of Environmental Conservation
- New York State Department of Public Service
- New York State Thruway Authority
- Long Island Power Authority
The Federal Highway Administration approved New York State’s most recent EV Infrastructure Deployment Plan update in September 2025.
State Officials Announce Expansion
NYPA President and CEO Justin E. Driscoll and Senator Jeremy Cooney announced the hub opening on December 17, 2025.
“This latest site fills a critical gap in NYPA’s network along major highway corridors, helps foster a community culture that recognizes the prioritization by Governor Hochul and the State of emission-free transportation and cleaner air, and makes it easier for New Yorkers to feel confident traversing the state in their electric vehicles,” Driscoll said.
Senator Jeremy Cooney stated: “Today’s announcement is a perfect example of this connection as we celebrate our state’s progress in bolstering our infrastructure to make EV use more attainable and continue our efforts to create a cleaner future for New Yorkers.”
Industry Perspective
Robert Barrosa, President and CEO of Electrify America, emphasized the network’s role in regional connectivity.
“This new hyper-fast charging hub at RIT strengthens connectivity along two major travel corridors and serves a vibrant community center—giving drivers the confidence to go electric without compromise,” Barrosa said.
Since 2021, Electrify America and NYPA have commissioned 223 chargers at 48 charging stations for the EVolve NY network.
New York’s Broader EV Investment
New York State is investing nearly $3 billion in zero-emission vehicles and clean transit access under Governor Kathy Hochul’s administration. State initiatives include:
- Drive Clean Rebate
- EV Make Ready
- EVolve NY
- Charge Ready NY 2.0
- New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program (NYTVIP)
- New York School Bus Incentive Program
- Direct Current Fast Charger Program
In 2024, Governor Hochul announced Upstate and Downstate DCFC programs administered by NYSERDA. Awards from the competitive selection process are expected in early 2026.
Charger Access Information
EV owners can locate public chargers through smartphone apps such as EV Connect and Electrify America, third-party route planners including PlugShare and ABRP, Apple Maps, Google Maps, and vehicle onboard navigation systems. Credit cards are accepted at EVolve NY stations with no subscription or membership required.
NYPA launched the EVolve NY program in 2018 to expand fast charging infrastructure along key travel corridors and at New York City airports.
