Emobi, the San Francisco-based EV charging roaming provider, has closed a $3.4 million seed funding round to expand its cloud-based JustPlug technology. The company operates North America’s largest EV charging roaming network, integrating more than 140,000 charging ports across 28 networks.
Highlights
- Florida Funders led the $3.4 million seed round with participation from Y Combinator, Collaborative Fund, Goodwater Capital, and other existing investors.
- JustPlug enables Plug & Charge functionality on approximately 80% of existing chargers and vehicles that lack native hardware support.
- Emobi is conducting pilot programs with three of North America’s top 10 EV automakers to test commercial-scale deployments.
- Multiple infrastructure partnerships announced in 2025 extend JustPlug across public, fleet, and customer-managed charging environments.
Addressing the Plug & Charge Gap
JustPlug is Emobi’s patented cloud-based solution that enables automatic EV charging authentication without requiring specialized hardware, software, or setup. The system uses ISO 15118 digital certificate infrastructure for cloud-based authentication combined with AI-powered memory mapping for charger-vehicle identification.
The technology targets a significant market gap. Most existing charging infrastructure and electric vehicles lack the hardware and firmware required for traditional Plug & Charge functionality. Emobi estimates this affects approximately 80% of chargers and vehicles currently in operation.
JustPlug extends Plug & Charge capability to both modern and legacy infrastructure by eliminating the need for apps, RFID cards, or specialized onboard equipment.
Funding Participants
The seed round included participation from multiple venture capital firms:
- Lead investor: Florida Funders
- Returning investors: Aves Ventures, Collaborative Fund, Gaingels, Gener8tor, Goodwater Capital, Oasis Capital, OneSixOne Ventures, Ride Wave Ventures, and Y Combinator
Strategic Partnerships Expand Network Reach
Emobi announced several commercial collaborations in 2025 that demonstrate JustPlug deployment across different charging environments:
- Flipturn partnership: Integrates roaming and Plug & Charge-ready infrastructure at customer-managed charging sites.
- ElectricFish collaboration: Enables JustPlug on grid-independent, ultra-fast public and fleet charging depots.
- Curo agreement: Delivers charging access for commercial fleets nationwide.
- Monta integration: Connects Emobi’s roaming network with Monta’s EV charging software platform.
The company also maintains partnerships with Parkopedia and other e-mobility service providers in the North American market.
Capital Allocation
Emobi plans to use the funding to scale technical infrastructure and accelerate JustPlug deployment through commercial partnerships with automakers, fleet operators, charging network operators, and infrastructure providers.
The company currently serves more than 40 enterprise customers and holds two provisional patents related to its charging technology. Emobi is recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy and Department of Transportation.
