Everged, a Virginia-based energy technology company, has launched what it calls the Zero Cost Swap Program. The initiative targets property owners and site hosts stuck with broken, outdated, or unsupported electric vehicle charging stations. Under the program, Everged fully funds the removal, replacement, installation, activation, and ongoing maintenance of new equipment — with no upfront cost to the host.
Highlights
- Everged covers all hardware, installation, and maintenance costs for replacing non-functional or legacy EV chargers with modern Level 2 or DC fast charging equipment.
- Site hosts receive 24/7 monitoring, remote diagnostics, and optional revenue-sharing opportunities.
- Existing electrical infrastructure often eliminates the need for new permitting, speeding deployment timelines.
- The program targets retail properties, municipalities, fleet operators, campuses, and hotels dealing with stranded or unsupported charging hardware.
Addressing a Growing Reliability Gap
The program responds to a well-documented problem in the EV charging space. First-generation chargers are reaching end-of-life, and several major charging providers have exited the market. That has left many early-adopter site hosts with non-functional equipment and no clear path to restoration.
At the same time, EV adoption continues to outpace charging network growth, making functional infrastructure increasingly critical for both drivers and property owners looking to attract EV-driving customers.
How the Program Works
After a site qualification process, Everged removes existing equipment and installs new, fully networked chargers. The company handles ongoing monitoring, proactive maintenance, and driver support. Because installations typically use existing electrical infrastructure, many swaps can proceed without new permitting.
Everged structures the arrangement so that its financial success aligns with host-site performance, including optional revenue-sharing models.
Executive Commentary
“We created the Zero Cost Swap Program because it is simply unacceptable that site hosts who were innovative enough to be early adopters of EV charging infrastructure are now abandoned to navigate solutions to restore functionality,” said Jefferson Smith, chief executive officer at Everged. “We owe them and our EV drivers a better experience.”
“We are so confident in our technology stack, that we created a program that not only solves a critical problem within our industry but also aligns our success with that of our valued site hosts,” added James Dion, president at Everged.
