EVgo Inc. announced plans to significantly expand its NACS connector deployment following a successful 2025 pilot program. The company installed nearly 100 NACS connectors across 22 major metropolitan areas during the pilot phase and now aims to reach more than 500 NACS connectors by the end of 2026.
Highlights
- EVgo targets 500+ NACS connectors installed by the end of 2026, expanding from nearly 100 deployed during its 2025 pilot across 22 metro areas.
- NACS charging will be available in more than 25 states by year-end, with priority deployment in Austin, Houston, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, and San Francisco.
- Over 80% of new EVs sold in North America are expected to feature NACS compatibility by 2030, with more than 35 NACS-equipped models anticipated on U.S. roads by the end of 2026.
- Autocharge+ functionality extends to NACS vehicles, allowing Tesla and other NACS-equipped drivers to start sessions automatically without adapters.
Deployment Strategy and Target Markets
EVgo will install NACS connectors at both existing and new charging locations to serve Tesla drivers and the growing number of vehicles equipped with the NACS inlet (SAE J3400). The company is prioritizing markets with increasing NACS vehicle penetration.
Target cities for 2026 deployment include:
- Texas: Austin, Houston, Dallas
- West: Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Francisco
- Midwest: Chicago, Detroit
- Southeast: Orlando
Most sites will feature two to four NACS connectors with flexibility to expand based on demand. EVgo stated it will monitor customer behavior and add connectors where needed.
Network Scale and Customer Experience
EVgo operates more than 1,100 fast charging stations across 47 states. The company developed liquid-cooled NACS cables tested at the EVgo Innovation Lab to support high-power charging sessions.
“Increasing the share of NACS connectors on EVgo’s high-power network means more EV drivers will have access to public fast charging near their everyday amenities like grocery stores, shopping and restaurants,” said Badar Khan, CEO of EVgo.
The company reported increasing NACS throughput on its network and expects continued growth as connector deployment expands.
Autocharge+ Compatibility
Drivers of eligible NACS vehicles can enroll in Autocharge+ through the EVgo app to automatically initiate charging sessions at NACS-equipped locations. The feature eliminates the need for adapters.
Autocharge+ also remains available for CCS vehicle owners. The system has enabled over 5 million sessions on the EVgo network since its 2022 launch.
“Backed by rigorous testing at the EVgo Innovation Lab, we launched not only a market-leading product with our liquid-cooled NACS cables, but also a great customer experience by expanding Autocharge+ compatibility to serve both NACS and CCS drivers,” said Alex Keros, Senior VP of Product at EVgo.
