Zeekr UAE earned a third-place finish at the Yas Drag Super Street event. The competitive drag racing weekend took place January 30–31 at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. The result followed the brand’s earlier success in the EV and Hybrid category at LIWA, where a modified Zeekr 7X dominated the field.
Highlights
- Zeekr UAE placed third in Category 12 at the Yas Drag Super Street, fielding its 001 and 7X models against modified ICE vehicles.
- UAE drag racing veteran Walid Al Maamari drove for Zeekr alongside teammate Ali Mubarak.
- The result follows a dominant LIWA performance, where a modified Zeekr 7X won the EV and Hybrid class.
- AWR Group, Zeekr’s UAE distribution partner, called the finish proof that EVs can compete directly with combustion-powered vehicles.
Two Flagship Models on Track
Zeekr entered both the 001 and the 7X for the Yas Drag weekend. The 7X had already proven itself at LIWA, where it took the top spot in the EV and Hybrid class. At Yas Marina Circuit, the two models demonstrated consistent performance under competitive conditions. Both vehicles ran in largely production-based form, underscoring the brand’s focus on factory-level electric powertrain capability.
Competing Against Modified ICE Vehicles
The Yas Drag Super Street is one of the UAE’s leading grassroots drag racing series. It draws skilled drivers and heavily modified performance vehicles from across the country. For Zeekr, the third-place Category 12 finish placed its electric models directly alongside traditional combustion entries.
Roberto Colucci, Director of EVs at AWR Group, noted the significance. He said the achievement shows electric vehicles can go head-to-head with heavily modified internal combustion engine vehicles. Additionally, he emphasized that EVs are not only practical but also capable of delivering competitive thrills on the drag strip.
Growing Motorsport Presence for Zeekr
The podium finish adds to a pattern of motorsport activity for Zeekr in the Middle East. After the LIWA win and now a Yas Drag result, the brand is building a track record in regional competition. These results serve as real-world validation of Zeekr’s electric engineering beyond standard road use.
Yas Marina Circuit, meanwhile, continues to position Abu Dhabi as a hub for motorsport development and innovation. The facility’s support for grassroots events like the Yas Drag Super Street provides a competitive platform for both established and emerging performance brands.
