Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) unveiled two new reference electric vehicles at the fifth annual Hon Hai Tech Day (HHTD), broadening its automotive range. The new models include the MODEL D, a lifestyle multipurpose utility vehicle (LMUV), and the MODEL U, a midi-sized electric bus. Additionally, the first North American variant of the MODEL C was introduced, highlighting Foxconn’s Contract Design and Manufacturing Service (CDMS) capabilities.
Key Highlights:
- MODEL D: Combines features of SUVs and MPVs, featuring a spacious design and adjustable pneumatic suspension for improved driving stability.
- MODEL U: A midi-sized electric bus designed for narrow urban lanes and remote areas, emphasizing flexibility and safety with advanced ADAS features.
- MODEL C: The North American variant of Foxconn’s best-selling SUV, highlighting CDMS strength for OEM customization.
MODEL D: Versatile Lifestyle Utility Vehicle
The MODEL D is designed as a Lifestyle Multipurpose Utility Vehicle (LMUV), combining features from both the SUV and MPV segments. Measuring 5.2 meters in length with a 3.2-meter wheelbase, it offers a spacious, comfortable interior. The vehicle incorporates Foxconn’s latest platform technology and features active pneumatic suspension, allowing height adjustments to enhance driving stability. The drag coefficient is optimized to a low 0.23 using specially designed S-ducts and air curtains. The design, developed in collaboration with Pininfarina SpA, brings a harmonious look to Foxconn’s family of electric vehicles.
MODEL U: Flexible Midi-Sized Electric Bus
The MODEL U is a midi-sized electric bus, continuing the innovative design language of the full-sized MODEL T. Created to operate in narrow urban lanes and remote areas, the MODEL U features a clean and simple design with large windows for enhanced visibility. The bus’s flexible internal configuration allows for customization based on specific needs, while its advanced ADAS and electronic control systems aim to provide a safer, more comfortable driving experience. The aerodynamic design also contributes to longer range.
MODEL C: North American Expansion
Foxconn also unveiled the North American variant of the MODEL C, set for mass production by late 2025. The MODEL C, originally launched in 2021 and a popular SUV in Taiwan, has been adapted for the North American market in collaboration with American partners. It features a new user interface (UI) and enhanced design elements, such as an expanded S-duct and a redesigned steering wheel. The MODEL C recently participated in the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR), showcasing its endurance and Foxconn’s strength in Contract Design and Manufacturing Service (CDMS).
