Geely Unveils Advanced Short Blade EV Battery

Geely Auto Group has launched its latest lithium iron phosphate short blade battery, promising exceptional battery life, fast charging, and unparalleled safety. This innovation sets a new standard in the EV battery industry with its compact design, higher energy density, and flexibility in pack designs.

Key Highlights:

  • Industry-leading safety features with high-thermal stability and Self-Fusing technology.
  • Extreme testing protocols including 8-needle puncture and rifle bullet penetration tests.
  • Longevity and reliability with a 1-million kilometer safe driving capacity.
  • Enhanced charging performance reducing charging time significantly.
  • Superior cold environment performance maintaining high capacity retention.

New Standards for Safety

The New Short Blade EV Battery Technology employs a high-strength, heat-resistant diaphragm paired with safe electrodes, ensuring higher energy density and safety. Geely’s Self-Fusing technology blocks short circuits during accidents, creating an insulating layer to prevent thermal runaway.

The battery has surpassed standard safety tests, enduring an 8-needle puncture test without adverse effects. It also withstood a 5.8mm infantry rifle bullet penetration test, demonstrating no thermal ignition.

Exceeding Industry Benchmarks

Geely’s battery has endured the industry’s first ‘Six Extremes’ serial test:

  • Seawater corrosion immersion
  • Extreme cold environment
  • High-frequency pack bottom scraping
  • 26-ton overweight rolling
  • Single-pack side collision
  • Fire roasting

Thanks to its patented grid frame design and multiple safety features, the battery showed no thermal runaway, smoke, ignition, or combustion.

1-Million Kilometer Safe Driving

The battery‘s multi-element doped electrode materials and low internal resistance reduce chemical reaction rates, extending the battery life. Geely’s tests indicate a cycle life of 3,500 cycles, equating to 1 million kilometers with minimal impact on range. This longevity translates to a service life of up to 50 years, enhancing residual value and reducing carbon emissions significantly.

Super-Fast Charging and Stable Cold Temperature Performance

Geely’s battery addresses high internal resistance issues with long, thin carbon nanotubes for improved ion transmission and fast charging. Test data show a charging time of 17 minutes from 10-80% SOC with an average rate of 2.45C, outperforming long blade batteries.

In extreme cold environments, the new battery maintains a capacity retention rate of 90.54% at -30℃, surpassing the 78.96% of long blade batteries.

Geely’s New Short Blade EV Battery Technology is poised to revolutionize the EV battery market, offering unparalleled safety, longevity, and performance.
