Supporting Canada’s Electric Transition
“The industry reception to Harbinger vehicles to date demonstrates a strong appetite for durable, affordable and environmentally friendly alternatives to supplement gas and diesel fleets,” said John Harris, CEO of Harbinger. “The need for EV options is amplified in Canada, where federal EV mandates are more aggressive. Our vehicles not only help Canadian companies meet these mandates, but they are also best-in-class medium-duty vehicles.”
Canada’s zero-emission mandates require 35% of all new medium- and heavy-duty vehicle sales to be electric by 2030, reaching 100% by 2040. To accelerate adoption, the federal iMHZEV program offers up to $100,000 in incentives per vehicle, with additional funding from British Columbia and Quebec.
“As a Canadian who has worked my entire career in the automotive and EV space, selling vehicles in Canada is a milestone for me,” said Phillip Weicker, Co-Founder and CTO of Harbinger. “When we founded Harbinger, our goal was to build the best medium-duty vehicles—and they just happen to be electric.”
Engineered for Canadian Conditions
Harbinger’s vehicles are purpose-built from the ground up for electric operation, rather than adapted from traditional gas or diesel platforms. The company designs and manufactures its own powertrain, battery system, steering, and braking components, providing superior integration, reliability, and safety.
To prepare for Canada’s harsh winter conditions, the vehicles underwent extensive cold-weather testing in New Zealand, ensuring dependable performance on snow and ice.
Key specifications include:
- Three wheelbase options: 158″, 178″, and 208″
- Battery configurations:
- 140 kWh – up to 225 km (140 mi)
- 175 kWh – up to 281 km (175 mi)
- 210 kWh – up to 338 km (210 mi)
- Torque: Up to 13,400 lb-ft at the wheel
- Turning diameter: 12.8 meters, aided by independent front suspension
Harbinger offers both fully electric and plug-in hybrid variants. While 80% of medium-duty applications—such as last-mile delivery—are ideally suited for full electrification, the hybrid option provides up to 804 kilometers (500 miles) of range for longer routes and limited-charging environments.
Redefining the Medium-Duty Segment
By vertically integrating its key systems, Harbinger reduces costs, increases reliability, and delivers a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) than diesel alternatives. Each vehicle includes an industry-leading 10-year warranty, with five years of full vehicle coverage and ten years for the battery, motor, and frame.
Third-party specialists Morgan Olson and Utilimaster will serve as upfitters for Harbinger’s Canadian step vans, ensuring fleet customers can easily configure vehicles for their specific operational needs.
