California-based Harbinger has announced Harbinger Industria, a new business unit bringing its electric vehicle battery technology to the energy storage market. Airstream is the division’s first customer, integrating Harbinger’s power systems into its new Trade Wind™ 27FB travel trailer, unveiled this week for off-grid camping applications.

Vertical Integration Strategy
Harbinger designs and manufactures its proprietary high-voltage battery system at its California factory. The vertically integrated approach enhances performance, durability, and cost efficiency.
The batteries feature lithium-ion cells from Panasonic Energy. Harbinger builds its power systems to automotive-grade standards, which represent some of the industry’s most stringent quality and safety requirements.

Trade Wind 27FB Technical Specifications
The Trade Wind 27FB delivers Airstream’s most capable off-grid electrical system in its travel trailer product line. Key features include:
- Energy capacity: Up to 18.5 kWh battery storage
- Solar integration: 600W rooftop solar power system for renewable energy harvesting
- Power output: 50 Amp service with dual air conditioners equipped with heat pumps
- Inverter: 5000W inverter enabling a fully inverted electrical system

Intelligent Battery Management
The Harbinger Power System continuously monitors system health and ambient conditions. The system automatically manages battery performance to maintain optimal operation.
Intelligent control of high- and low-voltage states helps prevent depletion. A liquid-based thermal system protects the battery from extreme temperatures to extend service life.
A custom display provides real-time visibility into system health, energy use, and power availability across batteries, shore power, and solar inputs.
Market Expansion
With the launch of Harbinger Industria, Harbinger is expanding its battery technology offerings beyond the automotive sector. The company will work directly with organizations across multiple industries to deliver American-made battery systems meeting specific customer requirements.

Consumers can see the Airstream Trade Wind 27FB and Harbinger Power System at the 2026 Florida RV SuperShow in Tampa, January 14-18. Airstream will announce final specifications, dealer availability, and pricing in Spring 2026.
