HelloFresh, the world’s leading meal kit provider, has partnered with Rivian Automotive to reduce carbon emissions by integrating 70 all-electric Rivian Commercial Vans into its delivery fleet. This collaboration has saved 200 tonnes of carbon and 20,000 gallons of gasoline, marking a significant step toward sustainable last-mile delivery in 14 U.S. markets. By leveraging Rivian’s eco-friendly vans and Ryder’s vehicle lease and maintenance solutions, HelloFresh is advancing its commitment to cleaner operations and improved air quality in urban centers.

Key Highlights:

  • Carbon Reduction: HelloFresh’s electric vans have cut 200 tonnes of CO2, equivalent to carbon stored in 300 acres of U.S. forest.
  • Fuel Savings: The fleet has saved 20,000 gallons of gasoline after driving over 250,000 miles.
  • Fleet Electrification: Nearly 25% of HelloFresh’s delivery fleet is now electric, branded with its Factor ready-to-eat meal service.
  • Urban Air Quality: Electric vans reduce emissions in 14 major city centers, minimizing stop-and-go pollution.
  • Optimized Delivery: Route optimization cuts travel distance, reducing packaging weight by 6-10% and food waste.
  • Ryder Partnership: Ryder’s RyderElectric+ solution provides leasing and maintenance for the Rivian vans.

The Rivian Commercial Van, designed for safety and sustainability, features automatic emergency braking, collision warnings, and 360-degree visibility. Its in-house software enhances fleet management, lowering ownership costs. HelloFresh’s optimized delivery routes further reduce environmental impact by shortening transit times, which decreases the need for excessive packaging and ice packs. This efficiency aligns with HelloFresh’s core value of sustainable operations, as stated by Nunzio Di Savino, VP of U.S. Logistics: “We’re ensuring our operations run as cleanly as possible.”

Rivian’s Tom Solomon emphasized the partnership’s broader impact: “HelloFresh’s adoption of electric vehicles improves air quality in cities across the U.S.” With Ryder’s support, HelloFresh is poised to expand its electrified fleet, reinforcing its leadership in sustainable meal kit delivery.
