Hyundai IONIQ 9 Gains Calligraphy Black Ink Trim

Hyundai has added a Calligraphy Black Ink trim to the IONIQ 9 in Europe, placing a black exterior and interior package above the existing Calligraphy specification in two exterior colors.

Hyundai has added a Calligraphy Black Ink trim to the IONIQ 9 lineup in Europe, positioning it above the current Calligraphy specification and offering it in just two exterior colors — Serenity White Pearl and Abyss Black Pearl. The trim applies a coordinated black exterior and interior package to the all-electric three-row SUV, which is built on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP architecture. Hyundai says the new Calligraphy Black Ink retains the equipment levels, three-row packaging and driving character of the existing Calligraphy trim while adding model-exclusive 21-inch alloy wheels, a matte black front emblem and black Nappa leather seats.

Highlights

  • New range-topping trim: positioned above the current Calligraphy specification in the IONIQ 9 lineup
  • Two exterior colors only: Serenity White Pearl and Abyss Black Pearl
  • Exterior package: matte black front Hyundai emblem, model-exclusive 21-inch Calligraphy Black Ink alloy wheels, gloss black rear garnish
  • Interior package: black Nappa leather seats, black leather-wrapped steering wheel, black-finished real aluminum dashboard trim

Which Exterior Elements Set the Trim Apart?

The exterior changes are limited to trim and finish rather than bodywork. Calligraphy Black Ink is identified by a matte black Hyundai front emblem, dedicated 21-inch alloy wheels and a gloss black rear garnish. Hyundai says the treatment complements the clean, aerodynamic proportions of the IONIQ 9 and achieves a stronger visual presence through detailing rather than added complexity.

The color palette is narrower than the trim it sits above. Buyers choose between Serenity White Pearl and Abyss Black Pearl, with no other exterior finishes offered.

Black Nappa Leather and Aluminum Trim Inside

The cabin carries the same treatment. Black Nappa leather seats pair with a black leather-wrapped steering wheel and black-finished real aluminum dashboard trim, which the company says produces a more coordinated interior across the SUV’s three rows.

What the Existing Calligraphy Specification Already Includes

Calligraphy Black Ink builds on the standing Calligraphy trim rather than replacing its content. That specification already carries a Nappa leather interior and Calligraphy-specific design elements, along with an optional six-seat configuration using Universal Island 2.0, Hyundai’s movable center console.

The Award Record Behind the Flagship Positioning

Hyundai anchors the new trim to the model’s European reception. The IONIQ 9 has taken German Premium Car of the Year 2026, Best Seven-Seater at the 2026 Parkers New Car Awards, Best 7-Seater Electric SUV at the 2025 TopGear.com Electric Awards, and World’s Best Large SUV at the 2026 Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year Awards.

“IONIQ 9 has established itself as an award-winning flagship EV recognised for its distinctive design, outstanding driving experience and comprehensive feature offering,” says Christopher McKinnon, Vice President, Head of Product and Product Director Office for Europe at Hyundai Motor Europe. “With Calligraphy Black Ink, we have enhanced the vehicle’s visual character…”

When Will Calligraphy Black Ink Reach European Markets?

Hyundai will introduce the trim across European markets in line with regional launch schedules. Pricing and availability will be set and announced by local Hyundai organizations closer to each market’s launch, and the company has not released a Europe-wide on-sale date.
