Hyundai Motor Group has officially opened its Metaplant America in Ellabell, Georgia, marking a significant milestone in its U.S. operations. This state-of-the-art facility, backed by a $12.6 billion investment, stands as the largest economic development project in Georgia’s history. It will produce electric and hybrid vehicles for the Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands, driving job creation and economic growth. With further investments planned, the plant underscores Hyundai’s commitment to sustainable mobility and strengthening the U.S. economy.

Located 20 miles outside Savannah, the Metaplant America showcases Hyundai Motor Group’s focus on innovation. The facility has already produced its first vehicle, a Hyundai IONIQ 5, with the IONIQ 9 electric SUV now in production. Kia models will follow in 2026. The plant’s capabilities extend to both electric and hybrid vehicles, reinforcing Hyundai’s leadership in sustainable transportation.

Hyundai Motor Group’s Executive Chair, Euisun Chung, highlighted the plant’s significance, stating, “With the talented workforce at HMGMA, we are building the future of mobility with America, in America.” Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp praised its economic benefits, noting collaborations with local institutions to train workers for high-quality jobs.

The $12.6 billion investment includes partnerships with LG Energy Solution and SK On for battery production. Suppliers have added over $2.5 billion and 6,900 jobs across Georgia, surpassing initial projections. Looking ahead, Hyundai plans to invest $21 billion more in the U.S. by 2028, expanding HMGMA’s capacity and upgrading facilities in Alabama and Georgia. With a total U.S. investment of $20.5 billion, Hyundai supports over 570,000 American jobs, making the Metaplant a cornerstone of economic and technological progress.
