Hyundai Motor America is taking a significant step to enhance EV charging convenience by offering free North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters to eligible EV owners starting in the first quarter of 2025. This initiative aims to provide Hyundai EV drivers access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, simplifying long-distance travel and daily charging needs.
Key Highlights
- Free NACS adapters available for eligible Hyundai EV owners through the MyHyundai owner portal starting in Q1 2025.
- Hyundai’s NACS adapters will enable access to 20,000+ Tesla Supercharger stations in the United States.
- Hyundai EVs with NACS ports and adapters will connect to over 38,000 DC fast chargers, including NACS and CCS systems.
- The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 will be the first non-Tesla vehicle to feature a factory-installed native NACS port.
- Adapters will also be available for purchase at Hyundai-authorized dealerships for broader accessibility.
Starting early 2025, Hyundai EV owners who purchased or leased their vehicles on or before January 31, 2025, will qualify for a complimentary NACS adapter, which includes free shipping. Eligible models include the following:
- 2024 and earlier models: KONA Electric, IONIQ hatchback, IONIQ 5, and IONIQ 6
- 2025 models: IONIQ 6, IONIQ 5 N, and KONA Electric
This effort underscores Hyundai’s commitment to supporting EV adoption and simplifying the transition to electric mobility.
“To accelerate EV adoption, we started by listening to our current owners,” said Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president, product planning and mobility strategy, Hyundai Motor North America. “These adapters will make DC fast-charging more convenient for current owners. Plus, the NACS port on new models like the upcoming IONIQ 9 along with improvements to our digital charging ecosystem, will further enhance the customer experience for future EV drivers. Our goal is to make the transition to electric seamless.”
Additional details, including terms for claiming the complimentary adapter and pricing for purchased units, will be released in 2025 through HyundaiNews.com and other customer communication channels.
Hyundai’s luxury brand, Genesis, will also participate in the program, with specific details expected early next year.
