Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled the IONIQ 9, a new three-row, all-electric SUV, featuring expansive interior space and cutting-edge EV technology. The IONIQ 9, designed with modern styling and advanced electric capabilities, highlights Hyundai’s commitment to innovation in the electric vehicle market. The vehicle was showcased at the Goldstein House in Los Angeles, underscoring Hyundai’s vision for the future of EV mobility.

The IONIQ 9 offers a spacious and serene interior, emphasizing a lounge-like atmosphere with ample seating and convenience features. The flat floor design allows for six- or seven-seat configurations, while Relaxation Seats provide comfort during long trips or while charging. Unique features like the Swiveling Seats in the second row create a dynamic space where passengers in the second and third rows can interact comfortably when the vehicle is stationary.
In terms of design, Hyundai’s ‘Aerosthetic’ exterior delivers an elegant and futuristic appearance. The smooth, curved roofline and streamlined elements reduce drag, achieving an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.259 Cd. Exterior elements include Parametric Pixel lamps and an intelligent front-lighting system, designed to enhance safety while maintaining a sophisticated look.
The IONIQ 9 is built on Hyundai’s E-GMP architecture, which enhances both performance and efficiency. With a high-voltage, floor-mounted battery, the IONIQ 9 supports Hyundai’s commitment to electrification, featuring advanced power electronics and a lightweight body that further optimizes its range and performance.
For power and performance, the IONIQ 9 features multiple motor configurations, including a 160 kW rear motor for the Long-Range RWD model, while the Performance AWD model features dual 160 kW motors. The Performance model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds, showcasing the SUV’s capability to offer both efficiency and a dynamic driving experience.
Technological innovations within the IONIQ 9 include Hyundai’s AI Assistant for advanced voice recognition, over-the-air software updates for vehicle controllers, and a refined EV Route Planner to assist drivers with efficient journey planning. Hyundai also offers a Features on Demand (FoD) service, allowing customers to purchase digital upgrades for further customization.
In terms of safety, the IONIQ 9 incorporates Hyundai’s latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), designed to improve safety by reducing accidents and making driving tasks easier. The SUV’s Chassis Domain Control Unit enhances performance, particularly in high-speed scenarios, with stability control and dynamic torque vectoring.
IONIQ 9 will begin sales in Korea and the United States in the first half of 2025, with a rollout in Europe and other markets planned shortly thereafter. Hyundai has made it clear that additional specifications and market-specific details will be provided closer to the official launch dates.
