Hyzon has successfully completed a trial of its Class 8 200kW Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) in partnership with IMC Logistics, the largest container drayage company in the U.S. The two-week trial, held in the Houston area, is part of Hyzon’s broader effort to decarbonize heavy-duty industries through hydrogen fuel cell technology.

Key Highlights:

  • Trial covered over 1,000 miles in the Houston market.
  • Successful performance feedback received from drivers.
  • IMC Logistics leads in deploying hydrogen vehicles in the U.S.
  • Hyzon’s trial program includes 20+ upcoming large fleet trials through February 2025.

Hyzon is a U.S.-based manufacturer specializing in high-performance hydrogen fuel cell systems, aiming to deliver zero-emission solutions for the most challenging sectors. The recent successful trial with IMC Logistics is one of several being conducted across Hyzon’s Class 8 200kW and refuse FCEV truck platforms. According to Hyzon CEO Parker Meeks, the consistent success of these trials marks an important milestone towards the commercial activation of hydrogen fuel cell technologies.

“The success of this trial with IMC is in line with the impressive outcomes we’ve seen across the other trials of our Class 8 200kW Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) truck,” said Meeks. “These consistent outcomes reinforce our confidence as we move toward full commercial activation, marking an exciting step forward in deploying hydrogen fuel cell solutions at scale,” he added.

The IMC Logistics trial tested the hydrogen-powered truck in local Houston conditions, covering more than 1,000 miles in two weeks. This initiative is part of IMC’s commitment to exploring sustainable technologies to enhance the environmental footprint of their fleet. Will Connell, Gulf Region President of IMC Logistics, expressed satisfaction with the results, mentioning the company’s eagerness to explore new sustainable technologies to better serve its customers.

“We put the truck through a rigorous trial, and it performed well, with positive feedback from drivers,” said Connell. “Our company already has the largest deployment of hydrogen vehicles in the nation and in support of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, IMC is eager to review new technologies that would enable us to expand where we can service our customers with environmentally friendly solutions for their supply chain,” he added.

The trial with IMC demonstrates Hyzon’s focus on innovation and scalability in the hydrogen fuel cell industry. Since July 2024, Hyzon has completed eight successful trials of its Class 8 and refuse truck platforms. As trials conclude, Hyzon continues to move towards full-scale commercial deployment of these hydrogen-powered solutions.

Hyzon’s ongoing trial program includes more than 20 planned large fleet trials across both truck platforms, extending through February 2025, further highlighting the company’s commitment to achieving decarbonization of the heavy-duty sector.
