Hyzon Motors Inc., a frontrunner in hydrogen fuel cell technology, has successfully delivered the first batch of four fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) to Performance Food Group (PFG), marking a new era in eco-friendly heavy-duty transportation. This event, celebrated at PFG’s Vistar facility in Fontana, California, gathered notables from local government, business leaders, and PFG associates, featuring ride-along demonstrations of the new FCEVs.
Parker Meeks, CEO of Hyzon, emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating, “Putting these zero-emission trucks on the road marks an important step toward decarbonization goals shared by PFG, Hyzon and the state of California.” He further highlighted the partnership’s contribution to reducing emissions in heavy-duty trucking.

The deployment of these vehicles is not just a testament to Hyzon’s industry-leading technology but also a step towards gaining valuable insights for future advancements, including the development of a 200kW fuel cell system.
Hyzon’s hydrogen FCEVs boast impressive features, such as a travel range of up to 350 miles and a rapid refueling time of approximately fifteen minutes. PFG plans to integrate these vehicles into its fleet, enhancing the delivery of snacks, candy, and beverages with reduced environmental impact. The hydrogen fuel for these vehicles will be supplied by Pilot Travel Centers LLC, a major player in the North American energy sector.
This delivery, a fulfillment of an agreement announced six months prior, positions Hyzon as one of the pioneers in delivering heavy-duty fuel cell electric trucks in the U.S. Jeff Williamson, Senior Vice President of Operations at PFG, reiterated the company’s commitment to sustainability and responsible service, stating, “Food distribution is an essential service and critical to the companies and communities we serve.”
FCEVs, in comparison to diesel and battery electric vehicles (BEVs), offer significant advantages like lower weight, longer range, and faster refueling times, making them an ideal choice for distribution and freight companies.
PFG’s move to embrace hydrogen technology aligns with its ongoing efforts to transition away from diesel, a decision underscored by a previous successful demo of Hyzon’s Liquid Hydrogen FCEV in Texas. This initiative demonstrated the vehicles’ capacity to handle commercial loads over long distances and in challenging conditions.
Looking ahead, Hyzon and PFG plan to expand their collaboration, potentially adding 15 more 200kW FCEVs and an option for an additional 30 vehicles, contingent upon successful trials.
