IONNA, a charging network backed by eight leading global automakers, and Sheetz, a major Mid-Atlantic restaurant and convenience retailer, have announced a strategic partnership aimed at expanding electric vehicle infrastructure. The collaboration will introduce new charging stations along key routes, improving accessibility and convenience for EV drivers.

  • 50 new IONNA/Sheetz Rechargeries planned by 2026
  • 3 initial locations opening in late December 2024
  • Co-located amenities including restrooms, Wi-Fi, and food & beverages
  • Loyalty and incentive programs slated for launch in 2025

Backed by automakers BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Stellantis, and Toyota, IONNA is forging ahead with a vision to redefine the charging experience through innovative infrastructure and integrated retail partnerships. The alliance with Sheetz leverages the convenience chain’s established presence and customer-centric philosophy. Together, they aim to ensure reliable, accessible charging solutions that provide EV drivers with the amenities they expect during travel.

Sheetz, focused on growth and continuous improvement, plans to increase its store count to 1,000 locations by 2028, offering an ever-wider footprint for hosting the charging network. Under the partnership, IONNA will grow alongside Sheetz, ensuring that more EV drivers have access to advanced ultra-fast-and-reliable charging points. Their shared commitment to quality is evident in the approach to co-locating Rechargeries with existing retail services, enabling customers to charge their vehicles while enjoying Sheetz’s offerings.

“At IONNA, every decision is made with the driver’s experience in mind. That level of customer centricity is built into the DNA of our business and it’s a quality we recognize in Sheetz, making them the right choice for our first partner,” said Seth Cutler, CEO of IONNA.

“Our mission at Sheetz is to put the Sheetz as we know it today, out of business,” said Trevor Walter, EVP of petroleum supply management at Sheetz. “We do this through constantly evolving our business and introducing forward-thinking solutions. As the electric vehicle market expands, enhancing our charging infrastructure exemplifies this commitment. Our collaboration with IONNA has rapidly enabled us to bring more advanced charging options to our customers, demonstrating the power of innovation in delivering seamless, future-focused services.”

The IONNA/Sheetz Rechargeries will offer multiple high-power charging bays, each protected by the recognizable red canopies designed for weather protection. Customers will have full access to Sheetz amenities, ensuring a comfortable and convenient stop while their vehicles recharge. The partnership represents a strategic step in evolving transportation infrastructure to meet the emerging demands of an expanding EV market.
