The Jaguar Type 01, a tri-motor electric four-door GT rated at up to 1,015 hp, will start at $130,500 in the U.S. when orders open in early 2027. Jaguar says the Type 01 is the first production car built on its dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) and the first of a new generation of models, designed, developed and built in the UK. The company anticipates a range of up to 400 miles and expects first client deliveries in the second half of 2027.
Highlights
- Up to 1,015 hp (1,030 PS) and 1,007 lb-ft (1,365 Nm) from three motors, with 0–60 mph in 3.1 seconds, according to Jaguar
- 118 kWh usable battery and 850-volt architecture for an anticipated range of up to 400 miles, or up to 320 miles at a sustained 75 mph
- 350 kW DC fast charging adds up to 200 miles in as little as 13 minutes, with NACS compatibility and Supercharger access in the U.S.
- More than 360 patent applications filed for the program, which Jaguar calls its most technically advanced car to date
How Much Power Does the Jaguar Type 01 Make?
The Type 01 uses a 260 kW front motor and twin 310 kW rear motors, which Jaguar rates at a combined 1,015 hp and 1,007 lb-ft of torque. The company says it is the most powerful Jaguar road car to date. Rolling acceleration from 62 to 112 mph takes 4.0 seconds, according to the release.
The twin rear motors share a single compact casing in the rear electric drive unit, which Jaguar says preserves luggage space. Fast-switching silicon carbide inverters, developed from learnings with the Jaguar TCS Racing Formula E team, adjust switching frequency between 2 kHz and 20 kHz to stay in their most efficient window. Integrated Traction Management cuts torque reaction time at each wheel from 100 milliseconds to as little as one millisecond.
A patent-pending Inverter Deactivation Technology can switch the car to single-axle operation by shutting down the rear motors when performance isn’t needed, such as highway cruising. Jaguar says this may contribute up to 18 miles of range.
“At its best, Jaguar has always delivered two characters – performance and refinement. Type 01 marks a step-change in our technical ambitions, with innovative in-house electric propulsion technologies that combine with the car’s unique proportions, low center of gravity and 50:50 weight distribution. Together, these create a car with refinement, performance and engagement working in perfect harmony, always with power in reserve, to deliver an experience that is truly Jaguar.” — Matt Becker, Vehicle Engineering Director, JLR
Battery, Range and Charging
The 118 kWh lithium-ion pack uses side-terminal prismatic cells with Jaguar’s own NMC chemistry and integrated longitudinal busbars in place of cables. The 400-mile figure is Jaguar’s estimate with 21-inch wheels, ahead of official EPA ratings. Jaguar also quotes up to 450 miles on the European WLTP cycle; WLTP and EPA figures are produced under different test procedures and are not directly comparable. The battery carries an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty.
| Charging type | Rated capability | Jaguar’s stated result |
|---|---|---|
| DC fast charging | 350 kW | Up to 200 miles in as little as 13 minutes; 10–80% in around 22 minutes |
| DC on 400-volt chargers | 250 kW | Split-charging capability makes the most of 400-volt chargers |
| AC (on-board charger) | 19.2 kW | Jaguar Home Charger wall box with a 24.6-foot (7.5 m) tethered cable |
In the U.S., the Type 01 is NACS-compatible with access to the Supercharger network, and DC charging runs through the passenger-side port. Dual powered AC charge doors sit on either side of the car. Jaguar says the Type 01 has been tested around the globe, and its ThermAssist thermal system moves heat between the battery, drive units and cabin, and can produce up to 3.5 kW of heating power from every 1 kW of energy recovered.
What Is the JEA Platform?
JEA combines a 73 percent aluminum body with torsional rigidity of approximately 38,100 lb-ft per degree, which Jaguar calls its stiffest integrated body and battery structure. The battery pack extends ahead of the passenger compartment without raising the roofline. Jaguar says the 32 extra cells this packaging accommodates may contribute up to 70 miles of range and 148 hp.
A patent-pending high-voltage junction box between the front wheels doubles as a front suspension strut brace. Cell connectors sit on the sides of the 200 cells rather than on top, so 80 percent of pack height is dedicated to energy storage.
“The beautiful design, creative engineering and technological capability of Jaguar Type 01 is an interconnected story. Design-enabling engineering innovations all working in perfect harmony. An unflinching commitment to our design philosophy and jaw-dropping proportions led us to our bespoke architecture, which in turn unlocks the distinctive driving character and performance that enables Type 01 to drive like no other electric car, while still being a true Jaguar.” — Thomas Müller, Chief Technology Officer, JLR
Aerodynamics, Chassis and Driver Assistance
Jaguar reports a drag coefficient of 0.23, the lowest of any Jaguar, after more than 7,000 wind tunnel tests. Active Vanes at the front open for brake and powertrain cooling, and a three-stage rear spoiler deploys above 50 mph.
- Suspension: Double wishbone front and integral link rear with switchable-volume air springs and twin-valve active dampers
- All-Wheel Steer: Up to six degrees of rear steering for a 37.7-foot (11.5 m) turning circle on a car 206 inches (5,235 mm) long
- Braking: Three regenerative braking levels plus a Single Pedal mode
- ADAS: 10 external cameras, five radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors, with an NVIDIA-powered system and a heated front radar behind the Jaguar badge
The car rides on bespoke Pirelli P Zero tires and has 50:50 weight distribution. Cargo space measures 15.9 cubic feet (450 liters), expanding to over 35 cubic feet (1,000 liters) with the rear seats folded.
Interior and Technology
A central spine divides the cabin into four individual seats. The driver faces a 24-inch single-glass OLED display, with a seven-inch touchscreen between the front seats and a matching screen for rear passengers. A 38-speaker Jaguar Immersive Sound System, created with Meridian, includes a full-width Panoramic Soundbar at the base of the windshield. The car supports software over-the-air updates. The lightest interior combination, offered on the Design Vision launch edition, pays homage to the interior of the Type 00.
Pricing and Availability
The Type 01 starts at $130,500 MSRP in the U.S., with orders expected to open in early 2027 and first deliveries anticipated in the second half of the year. A Chromatic Moments collection with two exclusive paints, French Ultramarine and London Red, is limited to 60 cars globally.
“From its dramatic design to its captivating drive, Type 01 distils the essence of Jaguar into a car for a new era. Jaguars should be objects of desire and culturally relevant – that’s their natural habitat and where Jaguar is returning. Type 01 is the foundation of the brand, one that makes no compromise between design and engineering in our quest to reinvent Jaguar for the 21st century.” — Rawdon Glover, Managing Director, Jaguar
