Motiv Electric Trucks has announced James Griffin as its new Chief Revenue Officer (CRO). Griffin brings nearly 30 years of experience in sales and business development across commercial trucking, fleet logistics, and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. He will focus on accelerating the sales of Motiv’s medium-duty electric trucks and buses throughout North America, leveraging his extensive background in the fleet and logistics sectors.
Key Highlights:
- James Griffin previously led Fleet Electrification Sales at ChargePoint, focusing on growing national fleet sales and partnerships.
- Griffin’s experience spans PACCAR, Ryder, and MHC Kenworth, with a track record in sales leadership, fleet management, and EV charging infrastructure.
- Motiv Electric Trucks aims to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission medium-duty vehicles in North America, building on its 15 years of industry innovation.
Griffin joins Motiv from ChargePoint, where he served as Head of Fleet Electrification Sales. At ChargePoint, he directed the North American growth strategy, managing a team of 60, and was responsible for sales, business development, government relations, and customer retention. His focus was on scaling fleet electrification through partnerships with National Fleet Sales, Automotive OEM Dealerships, and Transit and eBus services.
Scott Griffith, CEO of Motiv Electric Trucks, expressed confidence in Griffin’s customer-focused approach: “As our customer base transitions from early testing and pilots to scaling up their use of medium duty clean electric trucks, James has a customer-solution mindset which will be critical in accelerating adoption. From selling big rigs at PACCAR, to leading fleet sales and leasing at Ryder and selling charging infrastructure at ChargePoint, James checks all the boxes we are looking for.”
Before ChargePoint, Griffin served as Vice President of Business Development at MHC Kenworth, where he led a team of 40 in sales, leasing, and rental of heavy and medium-duty trucks. Additionally, Griffin has held roles at PACCAR as a National Account Sales Executive, where he was named the Number 1 National Account Sales Executive. At Ryder Transportation, Griffin climbed through various positions in sales, business development, and account management, culminating as National Sales Manager for Maintenance/Full-Service Lease, working with major clients like Wal-Mart, Dunkin’, and Coca-Cola.
“Motiv is the most experienced medium-duty electric truck OEM, and they have earned a reputation for quality and dependability among leading fleets in North America,” Griffin said. “Motiv’s 15 years of technological innovation applied across millions of miles is an amazing foundation from which to build. I’m looking forward to applying all of my experience to a great team and a great product at the right time.”
Griffin succeeds Motiv’s founder, Jim Castelaz, who was serving as interim CRO and will now return to his role as Chief Technology Officer.
Today, Motiv’s electric trucks are deployed by 10 of the largest 20 medium-duty truck fleets in North America, including companies like Purolator, Vestis (formerly Aramark Uniform Services), Cintas, and Bimbo Bakeries. Motiv currently holds 45% of the electric step van market in California and 19% of step van deployments across the U.S. Most importantly, Motiv leads the market with repeat orders, with 64% of vehicles delivered to returning customers.
