Kia America achieved record-breaking sales in September, with significant growth in its all-electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models. The company reported a 43% increase in EV sales and an 11% rise in PHEV sales compared to the same period last year. This strong performance was part of an overall total of 58,913 units sold for the month, despite fewer selling days. Key models, including the Sportage, Forte, Carnival, and Seltos, also saw record year-to-date sales. Kia continues to solidify its leadership in the electrification market as it prepares to launch new models in the coming months.

Key Highlights:

  • 43% increase in EV sales and 11% rise in PHEV sales in September 2023.
  • 58,913 total units sold for the month, despite fewer selling days.
  • Sportage, Forte, Carnival, and Seltos models achieved best-ever year-to-date September sales.
  • SUVs accounted for 74% of the monthly total, while electrified models made up 17% of September’s volume.
  • Kia’s electrified sales continue to grow, despite a general market slowdown in EV sales.

Kia’s electrified models have continued to perform strongly, even as the overall growth in the EV sector has softened. Eric Watson, vice president of sales operations at Kia America, highlighted the company’s position as a leader in the transition to electric vehicles. With the arrival of new models such as the K4 compact sedan and the Carnival Hybrid, Kia anticipates maintaining its sales momentum into the fourth quarter and beyond.

Additionally, Kia has announced initiatives to expand its charging network, offering North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters for certain EV models. Customers who purchase the 2024 or 2025 EV6 or EV9 after September 2024 will receive free adapters, giving them access to over 16,500 fast chargers across the U.S. Access to these chargers is planned to start in January 2025.

Kia also received industry recognition for its innovative designs. The 2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line was named one of Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems for 2024, following earlier recognition for its interior design.

In the environmental arena, Kia’s partnership with The Ocean Cleanup has made significant progress. Since joining forces in 2022, they have removed over one million pounds of plastic from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, continuing Kia’s commitment to sustainability and corporate responsibility.
