Lotus has unveiled its first electric hyper-GT, the Emeya, which has set a new benchmark for charging speed. This vehicle can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 14 minutes using a 400-kW DC fast charger, making it one of the fastest-charging electric vehicles (EVs) available today. Validated by the 2023 P3 Charging Index, Emeya surpasses other leading EVs in charging performance and sets a new standard for the industry.
Key Highlights
- Record-Breaking Charging Time: Emeya charges from 10% to 80% in 14 minutes using a 400-kW DC fast charger.
- Independent Validation: The 2023 P3 Charging Index ranks Emeya as the fastest charging EV, outperforming competitors like Mercedes EQS, BMW i7, and Tesla Model Y.
- High Charging Power: Emeya achieves a peak charging power of 402kW, with an average of 331kW between 10% and 80% battery state of charge.
- Energy Efficiency: With a WLTC energy consumption of 18.7kWh/100km, Emeya can gain up to 310km of range in 10 minutes.
- Advanced Battery Technology: Uses a cell-to-back battery structure and a new cooling system to enhance thermal performance and efficiency.
Lotus aims to make EV ownership more accessible by providing reliable and fast charging solutions. Emeya’s impressive charging capabilities are achieved through advanced battery technology, including a cell-to-back battery structure that allows for 20 percent more cells in the same space compared to traditional designs. This is complemented by a new cooling system that optimizes the battery’s thermal performance.
Qingfeng Feng, CEO at Lotus Group, stated, “With our industry-leading charging technology available today, Emeya pushes the boundaries for how an EV performs, providing drivers with the confidence to travel anywhere. We’re bringing an unrivaled driving experience in the ultimate grand tourer package, so drivers want to go electric.”
To enhance the charging ecosystem, Lotus collaborates with industry leaders and develops its own solutions. The company partners with Bosch and Mobilize to ensure a seamless charging experience across Europe. The Bosch network offers access to over 700,000 public chargers in 30 countries, while Mobilize Power Solutions provides home charging packages.
The Lotus Cars app and Lotus Charging Card offer a user-friendly experience, allowing drivers to track charging history, manage costs, and monitor battery status remotely. The app also features intelligent EV routing to reduce range anxiety by locating nearby public chargers.
Lotus has also developed commercial charging solutions, including an ultra-fast 450 kW DC charger, designed to support the latest 800-volt charging systems in vehicles like the Emeya and Eletre. This forward-thinking approach ensures that Lotus remains at the forefront of EV charging technology.
Emeya is the first electric hyper-GT from Lotus, reflecting the company’s vision to become an all-electric global performance brand by 2028. Combining Lotus’ design and engineering heritage with cutting-edge technology, Emeya sets a new standard for luxury electric vehicles. Customer deliveries began in China in March 2024, with the UK and European markets set to receive the vehicle in Q3 2024. Further market availability details will be announced closer to the release date.
