Lyft has reached a major sustainability milestone — completing 100 million electric vehicle (EV) rides on its platform, months ahead of its 2025 goal. This achievement marks a significant step in the company’s mission to advance clean transportation and support the growing transition toward electrification across North America.
Key Highlights
- 100 million EV rides achieved ahead of schedule
- $2 million saved by drivers through charging discounts in 2024
- $24.3 million earned in EV bonuses by California drivers in 2024
- 44,000+ drivers benefited from Lyft’s EV incentive programs
- 200% growth in electric vehicle miles traveled since 2023
Empowering Drivers Through Incentives
Lyft’s success stems from its focus on helping drivers transition to EVs through targeted incentives, cost savings, and technological support. As Jeremy Bird, Lyft’s EVP of Driver Experience, noted, “This milestone proves that our EV incentives, developed in close collaboration with key partners, are working — and they’re serving drivers.”

Drivers benefit from reduced operating costs thanks to charging discounts with partners like EVgo, Electrify America, and EVCS. In 2024 alone, these programs saved Lyft drivers approximately $2 million. According to Badar Khan, CEO of EVgo, “EVgo’s discount program with Lyft helps keep money in drivers’ pockets. This, coupled with charging during off-peak hours, helps reduce costs while easing energy demand on the grid.”
Making EV Adoption Accessible
Lyft also supports drivers through weekly EV bonuses, available in key markets such as California, Massachusetts, Maryland, Oregon, and Toronto. In California — Lyft’s largest EV market — drivers collectively earned $24.3 million in 2024. More than 44,000 drivers have taken advantage of these incentives across the U.S. and Canada.
Additionally, a partnership with Wallbox offers discounted home-charging solutions, lowering the upfront costs of EV ownership.
Reducing Range Anxiety and Enhancing Experience
To address “range anxiety,” Lyft introduced Rides in Range, developed in collaboration with Smartcar, which ensures drivers are only matched with trips within their remaining battery range. The company also integrated real-time charging station data from its network partners directly into the Lyft driver app.
EV drivers have also seen higher customer satisfaction and earnings, with 20–25% higher average tips per ride, supported by enhanced user experiences and increased rider curiosity about electric vehicles.
With electric vehicle miles traveled (eVMT) growing by over 200% since 2023, Lyft continues to expand its electrification strategy — one that not only helps drivers earn more but also drives meaningful progress toward a more sustainable future for urban mobility.
