Mercedes-Benz Vans is set to deliver nearly 5,000 fully electric vehicles to Amazon’s delivery service partners, significantly strengthening their long-standing partnership in sustainable mobility. This delivery, the largest single order of electric vehicles for Mercedes-Benz, will see the eSprinter and eVito models join Amazon’s transportation network across five European countries. More than half of these vehicles, over 2,500, will be deployed in Germany.
Key Highlights
- Mercedes-Benz will deliver almost 5,000 electric vans, the eSprinter and eVito, to Amazon’s delivery partners in Europe.
- This marks the largest single order for Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles.
- The electric vans are expected to deliver over 200 million parcels annually.
- This collaboration is a significant step in both companies’ commitment to the fully electric future of transportation.
A Partnership for Sustainable Transportation
This recent order builds upon a relationship that has seen Amazon integrate over 1,800 electric vans from Mercedes-Benz into its delivery network since 2020. The addition of nearly 5,000 new electric vehicles underscores a shared commitment to reducing carbon emissions. Both companies are actively working towards the electrification of the courier, express, and parcel service industry, a key sector in the push for electromobility. In 2020, Mercedes-Benz joined “The Climate Pledge,” a climate protection initiative co-founded by Amazon, further solidifying their joint efforts.
Advanced Electric Vehicle Technology
The Mercedes-Benz eVito and eSprinter are designed to meet the specific needs of commercial customers, offering a combination of efficiency, range, and practicality without compromising on cargo space. The battery’s placement in the underbody of the vehicles ensures that the loading volume is unrestricted.
Standard features in both models include the MBUX-Multimedia system, which supports digital networking and provides tools like navigation with Electric Intelligence to automatically plan charging stops. The vehicles also come with enhanced safety and assistance systems.
The eVito, produced in Vitoria, Spain, is ideal for urban, last-mile deliveries. It is available with two battery capacity options, 90 kWh or 60 kWh, and offers a range of up to 480 kilometers.
The versatile eSprinter is available in two lengths and with three battery sizes, providing a range of up to 484 kilometers. It boasts a loading volume of up to 14 cubic meters and a permissible gross weight of up to 4.25 tonnes. The vehicles destined for Amazon’s partners are manufactured at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Düsseldorf and are specially upfitted with custom shelving for parcel organization.
